FS: RARE Dynaco M 25 X speakers (cheap)
« on: 20 Jan 2009, 04:15 pm »
I have a pair of very rare Dynaco M 25 X speakers. Bought these some years from a Britt while living in Spain. Used it in a second system in my office. Since I moved back to the USA (Greenwood SC 29649) they been in storage, since I only use one system now.

They are white veneer, grey grill cloth.
Veener looks used and may lean up by 90 % or so.
Grill cloth is not ripped, but show some 'indention'
Drivers are from the 70's and the surround has been mended wih soft glue.

Speakers work ok, no buzzing noise or similar things.

Most (regular) Dynaco 25 sell between 200 -300

I am hoping to raise about $75 obo for an upcoming project.

Prefer local pick up, could drive up to a hour to meet buyer also

Hi,

I'm not interested in buying these, but they do not appear to be any Dynaco speaker I have ever seen and none made in the 1970's era looks like this. Dynaco used SEAS drivers during this time. The tweeter in the A25XL was a H-086 and it's predecessor was an H-087. The 10" woofer was 25TV.....something or other (just can't remember right how), but Dynaco never offered a 3-way in this configuration, to my knowledge and the were all port loaded in front (on the bottom in later models, on the top in earlier models). While the speaker level control and input jacks look similar, the rest of the speaker does not. The name on the back of the speaker where the control and input jacks are doesn't seem to say Dynaco, either.

Just wondering.

I just found this web site with different Dynaco speakers. Look at the speaker in the middle and it appears to be the same as mine.

I believe you, but Dynaco had a model made in the U.S. that was still called the A25XL that still used SEAS drivers (1980s) and had a vented front. The difference was all drivers where vertically aligned. I'm pretty sure yours were never marketed in the U.S. if they truly are Dynacos. Interesting.

Maybe someone else will know a more definitive answer for you.

There was a company in Japan that copied the Rickenbacker bass guitar 3002 (I think), that was, to a novice, the real thing. It was a clone and Ric henbacker took care of that problem.

I don't mean to piss on your sale, just interested in the model speaker and how it would have fit (historically) into the Dynaco line (which I am very familiar with).

In deed these were never indented for the American market. I bought it from a British guy living in Spain. So most likely they were made for the European market somewhere in the 70's and only sold during a brief period of time, which makes them interesting for someone collecting Dynaco equipment.

Also note that the model does not have a 'A' in front of the 25, but a 'M'.

So, rare they are. To unique to just toss away.

probably very early 70s if not late 60s. They are really vinatge and if in reasonable working condition well worth the entry

I've only ever had a single pair of A25s that was ever in good enuff shape to resell... i got a bit over $100 for the pair (i have seen them in retail stores for as much as $150 -- but i don't think they are worth that much).

I've probably bought 30+ pairs over the last 8 years and none ofthem cost over $40 -- i have a couple work benchs made out of carcasses (6 for a 2 level bench, 9 for a 3 level bench)

No question - it's identical. I find it amusing how the woofer is secured with those 4 screws just catching the edge. They did not expect the grills to be taken off in those days.

I'm pretty sure it's not from the late 60's or early 70's. Why would Dynaco build a completely different speaker system with a completely different driver array for Europe. That doesn't make sense to me. It's not in any Dynaco catalogs that I have. If it was an "in-between" model, maybe. That I could believe.

Capt. Z, does it really say Dynaco on the back label, it doesn't look like it from your photo?

Here are some more pictures. Lines appear curved due to lens distortion.
