Consider the Modwright Sony SACD's. There are a few on Audiogon now. I think most of you know the quality (sound and construction) of Modwright gear.

Most of the CDP mods cost more than the original unit.  One advantage of separate DAC or PC audio is that the moving parts are relatively cheap to replace (or at least doesn't have all the eggs in one basket).

Yep the Mac is very tempting, but sadly most of my computer glitches are internet and wireless network related.

Hello,

I'm interested to hear peoples thoughts on cd players.  There are many to choose from in the sub 2K$ level....  I won't have the chance to hear 80% of them...  I've heard alot of good things from professional reviewers, but they get paid to say good things... So I want to hear what real people have to say.  What players do you guys have? What do you like about them?

Sorry if this topic is beaten to death, just ignore it... We don't need the repeat topic police to add nothing.

Talk to James about "Industry Accommodation" for the BCD-1.  It would have to be in that neighborhood.  I doubt anything could approach that value.  Seems like that would yield the best result.

I picked up a perfect used Raysonic 128 for about half price ($950).
I'm very happy with it. Great build and sound.

Yes the BCD-1 is an amazing player....  And its definitely on the short list.  I went from playing redbook on the Bryston to SACD on an Arcam, which was very closely priced...  And hands down the Bryston was player of choice!

Yea the Bryston is seriously, probably the best player I have ever heard.  I don't have too many SACD's or DVDA's so a universal player isn't really what I'me after.  I've got my eye on the Pioneer Elite BDP-09.  I would like to have the chance to sit with the BDP to play some CD's on it.  I'm quite interested to hear the Cary CDP1 as well.... But man that Bryston... I mean, it's a Bryston!

Who do you trust? Yourself!
I have found digital to be very personal on tastes involved and must be really auditioned
in your system. So that involves a return policy on purchase.

The Cambridge 840C is an amazing player.  Being that it has two digital inputs and a up sampled digital output, making it one of the most veritable players on the market.  It's one of the few pieces of gear I'm content with.

.....keep your current player and buy one or more Dakiom Feedback Stabilizers.

Would there be any conflicts with associated tube gear?

Would there be any conflicts with associated tube gear?

Using the RCA units for your player hasn't been an issue at all for me (as I have tube monoblock amps).  However, I tried the hanging-wire amp versions on the amps and did not hear any benefit at all (but no noted degradation either).  So, I used the amp units on my humble 20 year old Onkyo receiver on my video system.

Overall, I have heard the most benefit of the RCA units on CD players....less on stabilizing internal circuits of preamps and a slight benefit on stabilizing the circuits of solid state amps/receivers, etc with the hanging wire versions.

So, the only one I can candidly and wholeheartedly endorse are the RCA units (I have the $218.00 MR273 and the $49 original R103 and I can tell you that the pricier one does indeed offer better performance) on CD players.  Only on CD players without tube outputs...and it's probably hit or miss with DAC's.  But, WOW, it made a Sony DVP-s7700 player/transport, which was absolutely miserable to listen to beforehand as a player (even after substantial power supply modding by Empirical Audio) into listenable with the (then) R103 I had used back then.

Dr. Dao tends to ship fast and does answer questions I've found....I think he takes back returns too if not entirely happy.

All the players today are really pretty good....the MR273 can take them up several notches for $218.00 (less than most DAC's).  The MR273 replace your IC's too, and added savings to you  :thumb:
