How's it running?

I have both versions downloaded, I'm just dragging my heels on the install...

Runs great. No issues (so far). I have it running in a mixed mac/pc 802.11n network utilizing a ton of shared resources. Easy setup.

Ummm, I don't get it.

Anything, even a picture of hitler, would be better than Vista.

I guess you have to hate Microsoft, or at least dislike Vista to find it funny.

Really? I love Vista, great OS. Way better then XP, that’s for shite sure. Let me guess, you’re a Mac fan.

I’ll tell you what I do dislike (besides clowns and midgets) are stick figures especially stupid ones. And the site that that cartoon came from is VERY stupid and entirely unfunny, 10 minutes of my life that I will never get back. Thanks!

You must be one of the few.  Even MS is running from it as fast as possible trying to get Windows 7 out.  No - I'm not a Mac guy.

It's OK IF (and that's a big if) you have TONS of RAM, a very fast processor, have no non-mainstream peripherals (driver issues still), and don't use any smaller, less mainstream software.  It's purely a resource hog with tons of driver issues and incompatibilities.  XP is much more stable, runs much faster, runs on machines with a lot less beef to them just fine, etc.  It's going to go the way of Windows ME and Windows 98.

I know I'll be sticking with XP until 7 is hammered out - then I'll switch.

Just my 2 cents.

I won’t beat this horse and I’ve posted about this already. I dual boot XP and Vista64 on my main sys at home. I video edit, I’m a graphic artist for 20+ years; I manage a medium size publishing company and maintain nearly 50 computers on Win Server domain.

Side by side Vista is way faster then XP on the same machine (Core2/4GB RAM), smoother, less crashes (if any at all) and I have all mainstream component and run a 5 computer network at home.

Yes you are somewhat correct about it needing a fast CPU and memory but I also had Vista running on a 1.4GHz Athlon with 512MB of RAM with everything off in my office and it was perfectly fine.

So much nonsense.

Nope. I'm a Linux fan. Mac is 2nd choice, and anything from Microsoft comes last.

A lot of people find xkcd very funny. I do. You don't. Oh well.

Right - you have a dual core 64 bit, 4 GB RAM, and no strange hardware - should run fine.  As for speed, well, you were running a 64bit OS on Vista - were you on XP also?  Not trying to be a turd.  I'm really curious.  Did you try to do any graphics work on that Athlon?

My son is running Vista on one of the new Intel i7 cpu's with 6GB of RAM and it runs great.  Again, no odd hardware though.

I just downloaded Win7...just need to find a box to put it on.  I currently have xp, kubuntu, pclinuxos and the vista32 pc that I am on now.  It has worked pretty flawlessly.....once I got it set up. I had to dig for drivers and spend time figuring out how to disable many vista things but since then (14months?) its been great on a 2.4ghz/512mb machine.  I think getting past all of the issues is beyond the average users abilities/patience which is why vista got its well deserved reputation.   I have heard nothing but great things about Vista64, but I think that may be more because your average user is probably not buying a 64bit OS.

I thought the strip was hilarious.

Originally I had both XP and Vista32 on a 2.3GHz dual core with 1GB of RAM. That was with the Vista32 beta, upgraded over time. It was always fine, even at beta.

Yeah, Vista is a memory hog and so is the Macs OS. But they look great and are a pleasure to use.

Fellows, this is just conversation no argument. My opinion is just that and I’m always willing to learn and repent. I’ve been sick these past few day too, makes me a little cranky.
I just find that the Medias opinion is bias. Most writers are techno-challenged and account for the overwhelming percentage. There are lots of reasons why MS’s products are globally dominating for over two decades now and those very same reasons leave them open to attack. I think MS is filled with some of them most intelligent men and women in our time and I think they should be praised for their efforts. Look what they gave us! God bless them.
Vista is a great evolution of the MS operating system and yes, it did/does have problems but those problems are mostly related to third party apps and hardware that just didn’t conform. Its hardly MS’s problem, they gave everyone plenty of time to work it out but many companies choose not to, choose not to spend their money developing what they needed too. Again, whose fault is that really?

Also the consumer wanted a cheap PC, sub $500 all inclusive including a printer and, well, you get what you pay for. It was wrong for everyone to sell someone a Celeron with 512MB of RAM with Vista preinstalled. Give the average person and a couple of teenagers a month or two and the entire system is doomed!!! With Apple that can’t happen, they make sure of that when the system is sold but you can’t get one for $495.
I fix PC’s for people all the time. Most have at least two IM’s running at boot and three toolbars along with both MS’s and Google’s search running. LOL, even my super fast machine would be bogging no less a cheap Dell. Again, is that MS’s fault?
By the time Win7 is available and shipping with new PC’s all the old and slow machines will be gone in the US and the new ones, even the very cheapest ones will be fast and full of RAM so regardless, problem solved.

If Macs are so great... why do people want to run Microsoft operating systems and applications on them?

Isn't that like buying a turntable that can play CDs too?

Hi,

I dual boot my Mac because I need a program for work that has no Mac release.

Other than that- I don't miss Windows in the least. If I didn't need that one program, I would repartition the drive and be rid of Windows.
