cut out size for SW12 FR?
« on: 14 Jan 2009, 10:49 pm »
I've got my servo sub drivers & amp on order. What is the hole cutout size? I hope to start on my baffles this weekend, so they'll be ready when those bad boys get here.

I checked the GR website, but didn't see anything. Apologies if I just missed it.

I'm planning a 14" square baffle. Thinking 2x 3/4" MDF glued to make 1 1/2. Then glue this to a 14x24 3/4" MDF base to make an "L" shape w/ some 1" square diagonal braces on each side. (with metal points for feet on the base)

Is 1 1/2" overkill? Would just 3/4" be adequate? Any advantage to plywood over MDF?

Is a sabre saw adequate to cut the hole? I'm guessing if the edge is a bit ratty, it will be covered by the lip of the driver. (I'm obviously no woodworker!)

The through hole needs to be 11" in diameter.

What is overkill really? I think your fine with the thicker baffle.

I'd cut the through hole with a router and a gig myself. It is really easy and makes a nice clean hole.

I am sold out of the amps and so is Brian. He expects more of them next week so your amp may be a little behind your woofers in getting there.

Hey no problem Danny. Good to hear you're selling them. Glad someone has some business in this economy.

I can't wait to hear this setup. I'm going on faith here, as I've never heard OB subs. But I trust my fellow AC'ers. :D

I think I know of someone w/ a router.
