Thinking about adding some diffusors behind the couch.  Any thoughts/recommendations?

The right side doesn't have much of a wall:

Yammy,

Let me guess... you're a batchelor, right?

You seem to be off to a very good start with the room treatments. You might think about putting portable minitraps or microtraps around your drums. Also, I can't tell what's beside the left speaker. If it's a wall, that's a good spot for a trap for the first reflection.

Enjoy!

Diffusion can work there, but I'd move the couch forward a bit if possible. I also agree with Scott's ideas.

Those drums will ring for sure!  Even rototoms unless heavily muffled.  Must have wonderful neighbors.

Since you sit very close to the wall I would add absorption there vs diffusors.
But, before doing that IMO, the 1st thing I would do is to get those Merlin's up onto some good stands.

Me? bachelor??? What gave that away??   :P

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.  As for my neighbors, well, usually I play the e-kit, and bang on the acoustic during my lunch break when everyone's away hopefully.  Either they're very forgiving or scared of me :)

I thought that perhaps the drums may help act as diffusors, but I guess they have the opposite effect.

I've got an old mattress against the rear wall, but I'll take your suggestion and add some real traps there.  I was afraid of overdoing it and killing the sound, but it seems like I've got a ways to go before that happens.

On the left side is a coffee table I've laid on it's side and stuffed two couch cushions on top to act as a makeshift absorber.

So basically, here's what I should be doing:

Speaker stands (think I'm going to go with floorstanders)
Additional absorbtion behind the couch (already have a mattress there)
absorbtion around the drumsets (would some plants in front of the drums work?  I think it may be strange, even for me to have some traps there)
trap to replace the coffee table on it's side :)

You've never tried a Mapleshade product, eh?

I have not.
My post reads like I am slamming his stands. That is not what I meant.

That's cool. Those stands he's using aren't cheap, though, and the build quality is excellent. Mapleshade makes some quality stuff!

those are excellent stands, imo.  but, unless you are sitting 15' away from the speakers, i would suggest getting larger brass cones under them, to tilt them up a bit more...  i also recommend absorption behind the listening position, not diffusion...

I think the stands thing was a joke. Those Mapleshade stands are AWESOME. Plus, they look tipped back already, don't know if they need more...
