Oppo DV-983H Region Free

Just wanted  to share this little tidbit of info.

For the past few years I've been trying to find a domestic copy of 1984 with  John Hurt and Richard Burton. Unfortunately, the domestic copies are selling for $70-$80 on eBAY. On the other hand, region 2 copies can be had from Amazon for about $20. Remebering a post I read somewhere that the Oppo could be made region free, I tracked it down at AVS.

Making the Oppo DV-983H region free is super easy. Simply turn on the player, hit the setup button, on the setup screen punch in the numbers 9210 and up pops a new menu. Push 0 then hit setup again to exit the menu and that's all there is to it.

It works like a champ as I'm watching the European release of 1984 as I type.

Ah, reminds me of the old Apex DVD I bought so that I could have the secret menu and make it region free. I wonder if my Oppo can go region free? I will have to check it out.

Good movie. Have you seen Blade Runner, Gattaca, Brazil?

I did this about a month ago with my 980.  I'm a happy camper.

It was the first thing I did when I bought my player. Works perfectly and is invaluable for certain circumstances.  8)

That hack was actually posted aboout one of the earlier Oppo models. I was hoping it still worked for the 984 and it did. Guessing, it sounds like this is an undocumented menu and setting typical to all of the Oppos.

I've got all three of those movies. They're great  :thumb:
