I think they are very good as well...Anyone think that some of the songs might be a touch hot or sibilant?

I notice that the recording quality can vary on individual Disc's.

The reason asking as I have used them in Auditioning gear etc and some systems simply can not handle several of the close miked guitar and vocal passages.

Mark,

I think they are generally pretty good.

I generally like the way his guitar work and voice is captured.  It doesn't sound forced or artificial, it simply flows.   :thumb:

I have all of them and as stated generally excellent!  Well recorded overall.  The only one I think leans towards hot or sibilant is "Sleep through the Static"

I don't know them name-by-name, but wifey plays them a lot. I think they sound fabulous. Very transparent, allows you to hear waaay back in the mix.

As a hack drummer, I especially like the way the drums are recorded, the snare especially. It's rare that the "rinnggg" of the drums gets captured like that.  And the cymbol decay - Count it - 10-12 seconds sometimes. OK I'll stop, but I really appreciate the naturalness/honesty of the drum sound  :thumb:

I agree, and have been impressed with each of his CDs.  In my opinion extremely well recorded.

I have them all on vinyl and CD.
Sound quality is generally excellent to my ears.
The "On and On" vinyl was pretty noisy, but the rest are terrific in that format.

Although I didn't particularly care for the music of "Sleep through the Static", I found the recording to be excellent (and I believe all analog)

I have 3-4 of his CDs ripped to my library and find them better than average. I'd say they are very good recordings. I did not think his latest album was as good as previous ones.....possibly because I was hoping for a departure and it seemed like mostly an extension of his previous work.

I'm gonna dissent a little on this one. I think while they are close miked and clear sounding, they are also highly compressed to my ears with an artificial loudness and too much emphasis on the snare (sorry Mike).
I still like listeining to him though, especially Brushfire Fairytales :)

I like Jack Johnson.  I have 2 of his albums on CD.

I can understand why you have concerns.  The JJ CDs are well recorded and have lots of warm bass.  Sometimes, the bass can be perceived as muddy or distorted in some systems.   Jack Johnson is musically engaging experience in my system. :thumb:

Sounds great in my system too! Found that the recording volume was a tad higher than the other CDs I have so when I play JJ, I need to dial my volume down! Otherwise, great integrity in the recording ... can literally hear his fingers slide on the guitar strings!

Best Regards

Another  :thumb: here. I bought my first JJ album last year and just ripped my second a month ago. Both sound very well-recorded on my system.

I love Jack; have all his CD’s, I think his recordings are hot with some clipping. His entourage are Audiophiles but apparently he doesn’t give a rats ass either way – just pass the bowl!

Listen to some of Holly Cole’s recordings; they are super excellent, double plus good.

This is the kind of information that I luv to hear from members.
I do hear some very low bass notes that with certain combinations of gear do sound muddy or one note. The better the bass control of the amplifier and transparency of the system help reveal a very cool bassist that could be easily lost in the mix.
I also agree that up top it can seem too hot, mainly on the last album Sleeping through Static. His music does flow very nicely and is very relaxing to listen to and is as mentioned before well recorded.

It is fun to know how others hear things in a commercially recorded disc so that the test is the same for all.

Thanks for the replies 8)

No caliber of quality can save this mans horrible music...  I guess I'm the only non JJ fan here...    I think his music is horrible.

Sorry.

You are certainly entitled to your thoughts and opinions, but a different thread is probably a more appropriate place to post them.
