Fresh Air's rock historian Ed Ward has a scathing and funny review of 'All You Need is Love' a newly released 5 DVD set about the history of pop from a British point of view.

All You Need Is Love, Tony Palmer's 17-part history of popular music, got its start more than 30 years ago as a project for London Weekend Television. Broadcast between 1976 and 1980, it distilled more than 1,000 hours of footage into just under 15 hours of indelible TV covering the evolution of genres and movements from protest songs to glam rock — and well beyond. Now it's been released as a 5-DVD set.
