2009 Audio resolutions?
« on: 5 Jan 2009, 05:23 pm »
Noone has posted this thread yet?

Does anyone have 2009 audio-related resolutions?

Mine are:

1) to finish my speaker project
2) to set up my turntable
3) to spend less on parts (then 2008) and do more with the parts I already have.

- Build bass traps.
- Get wife's PC on the network so she has access to my music.
- Get Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 online. (not technically "audio", but they're in my equipment rack therefore it counts).
- Build new open baffles for left, center, right and two surrounds.
- Run dedicated AC lines to rack from dedicated breakers (instead of my current 'rig job').
- Build ALL new power cables.
- Build ALL new innerconnect cables.
- Buy new fabric material for projection screen.
- Finish trim work in listening/HT room. (That I started 6 years ago)
- Finish building listening/HT room bathroom.
- Build sound isolation box for noisy PC and external music server/harddrive.
- Dampen/quite the noisy refrigerator in listening/HT room.
- Plot FR graphs of room to see what areas I need to work on.
- Buy more music, DVD's, Blue-Ray content (of course).
- Increase bass output. (Actually did that this past weekend, so I'm off to a good start).

I plan to work on the following:

1.  Better room treatments.

2.  Dedicated 20 AMP line for system.

3.  To buy less tubes.

4.  To spend more time enjoying my system.

-- Rip more music for my wife's Ipod.
-- enjoy my fancy PCs, ICs, power conditioning and the like without posting about it.
-- find time to listen to more music

my 2009 audio resolution is 24 - 192

however, I do not think my 2009 resolution is as good as my 1964 analog set-up.

just to remind you of what many of you resolved to do last year:

link to 2008 thread

I made a bit of progress on adding music (my 08 resolution), but not enough! same for 2009: more music!

I was close...

My audio resolution is to finish some projects! I finished up a few little things on a couple of projects that were just sitting waiting to be tested this past weekend and it now seems I'm on a roll.

I am 95% done with two projects.

#1.   Get finished speakers done and shipping.

#2.   Get reviews going for those speakers.

#3.   Get up to speed on CNC so I can do all my own chassis work in-house.

#4.   Finish Sicko 21" subwoofer

#5.   Finish HT room at the house.

I have a feeling all of them but #5 will get done.

...

Josh

Hey!

Josh, I was going to since I did this the past two years in the row. But somehow I forgot about it this year.  :icon_lol: Anyway, here are the link to the 2007, and 2008. So, you guys could check on your past resolutions....

My audio resolution this year is well.... nothing! Well, OK there are a fews that I would like to do.

1. Find a bit more time to set, do absolutely nothing and listen to music on my main system.

2. My system have a bit of a noise problem, but it doesn't bother me when I listen to music. o that's something I have to look at.

3. Explore new and buy more musics.

4. Build a motor case for my turntable.

5. Build a case for my headphone amp kit.

Nothing major. I'm pretty much like the way my system sounds now. I no longer feel like running out and buy new components now. But still there are a few minor tuning that I might do to refine it a bit more. Or maybe I shouldn't since it might screwed it up instead  :icon_lol:

    Anyway, have a great 2009 guys. :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

1). Getting off the gear merry-go-round and listen to much more music.

2). Finish ripping the collection to the server.

3). Unload all my vinyl, open reel decks, and vintage Marantz quad receiver, which will finish off cleaning out the audio closet.

4). Only one major project at a time, and only ones I can afford to finish -- most likely a really good DHT SET.

5). build various cables and finish tweaking existing gear.

6).  Explore more headphone listening.

I've actually made really good progress on all this in the past year and truly am enjoying far more music than in the past.

Deep listening has become a very therapeutic thing for me, and my man-cave has become a real pleasure to spend listening time in.

One thing is pretty clear to me now, I really do love the intimacy and emotional connection with the music that good SET/Single-driver systems can deliver.  At this time last year I was pretty far from that, and now that's all I have for both systems.

*Hopefully find a new house with a decent man cave.
*Try no more than two speaker systems to fit that room.
*Get all the CD's ripped to the hard drive.
*Get my wife's MP3 player all setup.
*Get a vinyl rig setup and "slowly" progress through that endeavor.
*Buy more music, music, music

Really upgrade my vinyl front end now that I have considerable idea what largely works and doesn't.

Resist any temptation to 'improve' my CD front end as it's most often money poorly spent.

Continue to pretend that cabling doesn't matter so I can preserve my sanity

Maybe look at, finally, improving my speakers...probably not that one, tho.

To get all the non-stereo-room stuff out of the stereo room.  It used to be the ONE room that was tidy.  Dammit.

Then maybe try to get a reasonably priced 5-channel amp so I can bi-amp the Tannoys AND hook the subwoofer up again for a change.  Then I could move the QSC amp back into the 5.1 system and flirt with eviction by playing the Blue Man Group DVD-A.  Wouldn't that be nice?  I remember the idea of bass, but I've forgotten what it sounds like.

Actually just an amp that worked reliably would be nice.  Both the uber-pricey Manley Stingray and the bargain basement Sonic Impact amp have let me down.  Just work, dammit, that's all I ask.
