It's easier for me to vote on what I don't listen to;  Country and Rap.

Pick only two? No way. KXCI radio plays such an eclectic mix that I after 25 years have learned to love (almost) all genre's of music.

Here are my pics in no particular order:

Jazz
Indie
Classic Rock
New Rock(alternative)
Country (old)
Blues
Electronic
Folk
World (definitely yes)
R&B and Soul
Bluegrass
Celtic
Cajun
New Age Space Music

What Wayne said cept I would include Classical.

The music I listen to seems to go in cycles, like reading as well, but just recently I am loving acapella.  The Nylons "Best of" album I bought recently off Amazon is a beauty!  Same goes for The Flying Pickets, an old UK group.

Next week it will probably be something else of course.

Phil, I started off having jazz (classic), then I put jazz (smooth), then I started thinking about all the types of jazz there are...... :o :duh:
Then I'd have to separate ALL of the genres into sub categories. That's when I realized this isn't a scientific study on the listening habits of an audiophile, it's supposed to be a fun little thread. That's when I grouped all forms of jazz in one box. Trust me, that wasn't my first choice.

John, I added Baroque.

There are some genres I've never heard of listed here.
But I agree with Duke Ellington and ZLS about there being two types of music.  :thumb:

I like Stoner Rock, Industrial, and Gabber. I didn't see Gabber or Stoner Rock on your list of choices. Perhaps too intense for the Audiocircle crowd.

Maybe they were overlooked because they have silly names.

If I were inventing a new musical genre, I'd try to give it a tasteful and dignified name - a name that speaks to the music's ability to lift the soul and reveal truths, to weather the test of time and emerge polished and beautiful.  For example, if Stoner Rock were renamed "Hypabyssal Igneous", it would probably receive more respect in vital online polls like this one.

It is tough for a guy like me with such a broad, eclectic mix of music, to commit to just two genres.

But, when I review the playlists I have, and check the stats in the Slimdevices s/w, it would appear that I live at these two extremes - Electronic, and Classic Rock.

Funny, my current favourite playlist (a mix of AC DC, Led Z, Foreigner, etc) is aptly named Dirtbag Rock...

I am assuming you are calling Jam Bands, Stoner Rock? As a few of us asked for Jam Bands but it was not added. Anyway, no big deal just curious.

BobSt.Louis started a fun thread and many gave recommendations for the poll. I always have a difficult categorizing some bands when talking to friends about music, as genres can be tricky. For many years, I have been referring to Allmusic.com for researching and think they do a great job of breaking things down. Of course there are always exceptions but check it out.... allmusic.com

They have 9 main Genres, and many styles within a genre:

Prog and Jam bands have been added.

low.pfile - Jeez man, that's a Heckuva long list of jazz!  :o
Some of them I've never heard of, but have probably heard the music. In fact, I've probably GOT some of that music and don't even know what sub-sub-sub-category they belong in.

This has got to set an all time record for the amount of options in an AudioCircle poll. Ever.

Viking Metal
Mathcore

I think these are my favorites from Nathan's list.  I have no idea what they could be like, but anything that fuses Vikings and metal, or math and metal, must be truly awesome!
