Klipsch

Anybody have any experience with Bryston and Klipsch speakers? I enjoy the sound of horns .

I used a B60 for a while and now I use an older 2b-lp pro with an AES AE-3 tube preamp on Klipsch Chorus II's and used the same pre/power set-up on Fortes and Forte II's.  The B60 sounded great but the AES-3 in front of the 2b-lp fleshes out the mids and fattens up the bass a little IMHO taking the sound up a notch.  It is a system synergy thing. 

Slightly off topic, I just got a pair of Vienna Acousitc Haydn's (original version) that are being driven by the B60.  What a great combination!

I had Klipsch KG5.5 briefly and they are awesome for movies and rock-n-roll :thumb:

Thanks for the. info, I think I remember a few weeks back that Mr. Tanner was picking up a pair of JBL Arrays and I think they have horns in them.

Yes I have the 1400 Arrays and they are a horn system from 750Hz and up.
Do you have any questions on them?

Yes James, I do have a question or 2. How do you like the sound dispersion on them? Also are as happy with the sound now that you have them at home as when you first heard them. Also what gear are you running?

Hi BM,

Yes I really like them although I would have to say they are not a 'traditional' horn sound.  They are much less forward and more laid back than most horns I have heard.They do not tend to direct the sound at you and do not have the quickness (ringing?) that some speakers have.

If you like big full-range orchestra works you will love them. If you like an upfront in your face sound you will not. Movie scores sound incredible! Of the two other people I have had listen to them both prefered them to the Thiel 3.7's in my room.

I am using them with all Bryston gear.

I have Klipsch La Scala horns and use them with a 4B amplifier and 1B preamp.  They are amazing.  They are amazing w/ a headphone amp but I am strongly biased.  The Bryston brought out the Bass so well I disconnected the Sub I was using with my NAD 272.  I will never be without a set of La Scala's this is a strong commitment to big black ugly plywood boxes.  If you play "The Very Thought of You" by Albert King for her she will fully understand the importance of fine, fine audio.

James, in regards to the JBL 1400's, did you find the bass sloppy? Or could you tell me what you thought of the bass compared to OB1'S as I have a pair of OB'S.

Hi BM,

The 1400 uses a 14 inch woofer (much bigger than the OB1's) but it is very well controlled.  In fact I get 22Hz flat in my room and the bass is very detailed and room filling.  I tried bi-amping the 1400's using a 10B electronic crossover and bypassing the internal crossover which tightened the bass a little more but I prefered the overall balance of the passive crossover.

James, when you say that you prefer the passive crossover you are referring to the JBL crossover, is that correct. Also which amp are you using to drive this pair of speakers.

Hi BM,

Yes the internal JBL passive crossover. I am using a pair of 28B's but I have also used the new 7B SST 'squared' amps as well.

I have two seperate Klipsch setups that use Bryston amps.  I like the sound of both systems for movies and music.  The home theater system uses Chrous IIs for mains, an Academy for the center and KSP-S6s for the rears all driven by a Bryston 9BSST.  My bedroom system has Klipsch RB75s for the mains, an RC-7 for the center and RS-7s for rears all driven by another 9BSST.  Love the sound :D
