Somewhat reluctantly I trailed along with wife and daughter to see the Brad Pitt/Cate Blanchett interpretation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald story.  I had reservations that such an odd premise could be coherently made into a movie.  Well, they pulled it off.  Not a great flick, but well done, entertaining, and occasionally thought provoking.  I recommend it.

I would agree with you.  It was a long one though, and it felt long given the storytelling.  I must say that Blanchett is a beautiful woman, very nice bone structure and skin.

yeah, it was very well directed and acted.  the story was a great one too, not a typical hollywood cheese ending or storyline.  very intellectual and moving.  it was very long though.  its one of those movies you need to see once, and then not again for many, many years.

Excellent film; may just be the best film I have seen in the past year. I love the concept, I have often entertained thoughts along the same lines...easily 5/5 stars.
File this one under "thought provoking".

Great flick . The theme of life and loss runs throughout . Almost 3 hours but did not really seem that long . Highly recommended .

Not my cup of tea.  Couldn't connect with any of the characters and the story was just too thin.  Considered walking out a few times but managed to endure the 3 hours it took to get through this thing.

Too many films don't live up to the hype, but I have high hopes for Slumdog Millionaire.

A nicely done film. I had my doubts but as soon as it started I was entranced and enjoyed the entire 3 hours, which seemed to fly by. The long arc of Benjamin's life gave the characters time to develop with excellent acting by everyone.

My wife and I both enjoyed it immensely. Heck of a story, and very visually pleasing, and I'm not just talkng about Kate. I look forward to watching it again at home in 6 months or so.

I think how people react to this film will be very much influenced by their expectations.  It's a well made film that follows the life of a man with an odd and unique condition, nothing more and nothing less.  It's a story that you can think about deeply, but not one that forces you to.  I've seen reviews that compare it to Forrest Gump, which I think does it a disservice.  If you go into this film looking for shocks or twists, it will disappoint.  But if you appreciate a film that simply follows the life of someone interesting, this is a very good film to see.

Saw this on Valentine's Day with the wife and it was a good choice for us as we both enjoyed it. I agree with Phil that it has deep connotations but you don't have to contemplate those thoughts if you don't want to and you can still enjoy the film on a superficial level. It is a bit Forest Gump like in the themes of love since childhood that only is realized later in life and the way it follows the arc of one person's life who overcomes serious handicaps to experience extraordinary things. There is also the similarity that the main character's life is fulfilled by having a child, despite the fear that the child will inherit the father's affliction. All in all a very good movie imo.
