1 solid ad Blair, you had me hinged on you every word and even tho my boat doesn't float with your types of amps(I'm not a 2 channel kinda guy), your writeup had me as curious as I've ever been about them regardless. Now that's a damn good writeup to me. :thumb:
Hopefully an AC're will pick this up so we'll hear more thoughts about this amp.

Cheers,
Robin

I saw the ad on audiogon - did you make more than 1?
I like the 6SN7 choice.
What is the availability on the OC3 tube?

Brad (trying not to purchase this until I start a new job  :D)

I can answer on the 0C3.  They are cheap and readily available.  They are cold conducting gas regulator tube (glow a nice color, no heaters).  I am not sure what all they were used in, but there is a ton of them in the market place. Lots of JAN ones, lots of regular ones.  I have a box full of different regulators (0A3, 0B3, 0C3, 0D3, 0A2, etc..) in my basement.

0C3 = VR105, i.e. 105 volt regulator.  0D3 = VR150, 150 volt.  You can stack them to acheive different voltages too.

Thanks everyone for your comments. They are much appreciated!  :D

Josh is correct, the OC3 is easy to locate and inexpensive AND nice to look at. Best of all, they're reliable. I have this one wired to operate well within its specs and it should not go bad for many years.

Back-side photo coming soon...

You're correct, Brad. Here's the link: http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/auc.pl?ampstube&1231294384

The reserve is $899.00. I placed it on Audiogon for some extra coverage.

Just curious, but, why put the power switch in the back?  :dunno:

The power switch is in the back so the faceplate remains clean. It would be very easy to move it up front and put a chassis plug in where it used to be. The plug would not be too noticeable. There's no charge for doing that, of course.  :D

Just so people know: My Classic Series amplifiers are all 100% unique. They make excellent collectors items. The reason behind making them is so that people can enjoy good, clean vintage components restored to pristine condition all interconnected via a circuit designed to bring out the best in everything installed and do it without stressing any of the parts. Vintage amplifiers are nice- but if they are unrestored, there is a high probability of capacitor or resistor failure. Classic Series amps have the same predicted lifespan as our new amplifiers. Iron hardly ever goes bad unless something provokes it.

Burned out tube amplifiers are salvageable!  We can make a new amplifier out of your existing damaged tube amplifier.  Don't let your iron go to waste- let us make something new and exciting from it.

Some examples:

Old stereo consoles
Garage weathered forgotten amplifiers or those 'barn fresh' ones
Burned out printed circuit based amps
Lightening/surge damage: The output transformers are most likely good.
Water/fire damage: There is a possibility
Pet Relief Victims: Sorry- not that kind of damage or anything like it. All amps have to be sanitary.

Don't closet or throw out that amp! If you purchased a new one and don't like it- we can rebuild those too.

Someone had a question about compatible power tubes. Here's a list of usable tubes:

1. 6L6 GA,GC, etc... low and high dissipation anode types.
2. 5881's
3. KT-66
4. 350B
5. KT-88 (there's more than enough filament current!)

NOTE: The power output will not change significantly between any of these tubes due to the automatic biasing.

Blair,

Any ideas on what would be a typical charge (ballpark figure) for refurbishing an old amp that has "normal" wear.... dried out capacitors, resistors out of tolerance, etc.

Thanks,
Boris

Hi Boris,

I'd have to see a photo of the underside of the amplifier for an accurate quote. All amps are made differently. Sometimes parts are jam-packed and miserable to navigate around, while others are easier to repair. It also depends on how many components require replacement. The price range varies so widely I really can't give a pall-park figure.

Does anybody have questions? It would be great to hear from you!  There are two other items up for sale within the Industry Ads circle as well. You're welcome to ask questions about those too.

Does anybody have questions? There's been plenty of looking...

If you'd like something else, that can be arranged. I have a wide variety of circuits and designs for just about any application.

There must be allot of silent types out there.

Holding things in is bad... Look:  :bomb:

This amplifier has been sold. If you would like a Classic Series of your own, please drop us an email! Each and every Classic Series is a unique vintage amplifier. What we're doing with this series is taking the good components from vintage amplifier and making new amps form them. Parts are often rare, making these quite valuable.

A service we provide: If you have an amp that's seen better days, a new one can be made from it and it will work better than the original.

Thanks everyone for looking at my equipment! There is still one Classic Series Single Ended 6L6 amplifier up for sale in this circle. Another amplifier will be posted soon.

As usual, please ask any questions you may have.
