Now here's an SL-1200 mod I'm excited about

In case you guys haven't seen this,

http://www.soundhifi.com/sl1200/index.htm

Being that I just happen to have a spare SME309 hanging
around, this is definitely my next move on the 1200 front.

It will probably take a few weeks to get here, but this looks
pretty exciting.

I'll keep you posted!

I'm with ya' there, Jeffrey :thumb:

Frankly, the KAB outboard motor mod didn't do much for the Technics sonics (it still sounds dark and restrained/a bit muted).....perhaps Dave Cawley, the proprietor at Sound HiFi, has a better idea on his.

I've been dialoging with him for a while now on this subject: http://www.vinylengine.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16235&highlight=

John, thanks for the tip too.

I am really excited about this and if it does the trick will be happy to tell the world.

You can usually find a nice SME 309 on the gon for about 1000 bucks.  Add about 600
worth of easy mods and that still only makes a 2000 table.  Not cheap, but not stupid
money by any sense of the imagination.

The good news is that I have a pair of Lyra Skalas and a pair of SME 309 arms, so
I can mount one on my Raven Two, plug em both in to my Nagra Phono stage, play
the exact same MoFi LP's and really compare apples to apples, with the only thing diff.
being the table itself.

This looks to be a winning combination...

John, did you notice that the text about the mat on Sound HiFi is the same text that is on the Herbie's site ? (2nd paragraph of the mat page)?  Seems a little odd but is this the same mat?

Now that's the way to do a proper comparison!

Sean/panelman....I don't know if they are somehow related or not.

Dave did not say when I 'dialoged' with him...he being in the UK and Steve Herbelin is in Texas I wouldn't think so...but, ya' never know  :dunno:

John,

sent an email to Steve Herbelin at Herbie's and he confirmed the mat at Sound HiFi is purchased from him.
