Seperate Mains Ring/Spur For Each Component?
« on: 28 Dec 2008, 04:36 pm »
Hello, I'm intending upon sorting out a small listening room and are going to start with the mains. I wish to seperate the supply for each component (turntable, preamp/phono and power amp) by running three spurs or rings to a dedicated consumer unit. I cannot afford to use Hifi ring main cable (Russ Andrews/Kimber) at £40 per metre so was thinking of using 10mm Steel Wire Armoured (possibly grounding the steel shielding at both ends)
If anyone who has done similar could advise I would be very greatfull, cheers. All suggestions welcome.

YES!  :thumb:

But spurs, not (IMO) old-fashioned rings.

And standard 30amp 6mm^2 double-flat-plus-earth is fine ... I suggest the armoured" cable isn't going to deliver you any advantage.

I suggest you would do well to peruse Pink Fish Media for mains posts by Roy K Riches (a fellow Pom) ... I am very glad I took his advice.

Regards,

Andy

PS: He's an avid carp fisherman BTW!

When I lived on your side of the pond I ran dedicated spurs with 6mm twin and earth cable. This was a major improvement over the typical ring with 2.5mm twin and earth.
