DOS, sorry to turn this into a Genesis discussion. Wayner, 'Selling England' and 'Lamb' were the last two PG era Genesis records. I personally love "A Fifth of Firth" from 'Selling England' Fantastic guitar solo.

If I remember correctly, "Trick of the Tail" was the first post PG Genesis record. Still had the amazing Steve Hackett on guitar, who was doing tapping stuff when Eddie van Halen was still in diapers. (Of course...Eddie turned it to eleven and made it ROCK! )

If you want complex....check out 'Suppers Ready' from Foxtrot. (PG era again)

I saw PG Genesis Lamb tour back in 74' then have seen PG about 8-10 times since.  We almost named Neil, our middle child (named after NY) Peter (after PG)  but "Peter Brady" would probably have been a mistake.   :)

I love all that is PG.  Also, saw the Trick Of The Tail tour when PG left.  To accomodate Phil moving to a more active vocal role they had both he and Bill Bruford (my fave drummer) on the drums.  Pretty good (said in Larry David voice).  IMO, Genesis became significantly less creative and important after that.

Speaking of Bill Bruford (and Tony Levin, my fave rock bassist) that KC lineup is (obviously) my fave of all the Fripp gang get-togthers.  Saw Three Of A Perfect Pair tour in second row!  Go find the DVD of Neil and Jack and Me.  It includes the incredible Live In Japan performance from the Three Of A Perfect Pair tour.  I never could find that thing (loved it on laserdisc) until I found out it's included on the Neil and Jack and Me DVD.  Would love for that to be remastered, etc.  Complex yes, complicated....only to the person not interested.

The Orb- Orbus Terrarum is one of the most densely layered albums I've heard.

How about Beck?  Especially Odelay and Midnite Vultures have a ton of stuff going on in them.

Beasties- Paul's Boutique is another that comes to mind.

Ministry- Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste and Psalm 69 on the NIN tip.

AC\DC
Andres Segovia
Atheist
Battles
Brian Eno "Music For Airports"
Capharnaum
Spastic Ink (I think this is what happens when four "complicateds" are pressed into one "noodly")
Sleep "Jerusalem"
Sunn 0)))

Deep, Dark and not for the faint of heart.

That brings up something which really sticks in my craw.  For too long those of us who are faint of heart have been deprived of thousands of albums, movies and amusement park rides.  The majority of NON-faint-of-hearted people get all the good entertainment, leaving the faint of heart to pick up whatever scraps fall out.  It's just not fair!  It's not like I had a choice; being born to a faint of heart mother and a father who became faint of heart thanks to a mislabled blood tranfusion in his childhood.  Why should I be cheated out of exciting music by a bunch of exclusionary, stout-hearted snobs?  I just wish someone in the faint of heart community would see this incredible market opportunity to provide safe, tame and unchallenging entertainment to those afflicted with faint of heart syndrome.  But nobody does because starting a business is not for the faint of heart.  It's a real catch-22.

I think that was a joke.

Ah, brings back memories. I was about six rows back in the center at PG's first tour after leaving Genesis.

So was Fripp the second guitarist on the first PG tour?

It seems metal gets no mention ever here on the circle...

Spiral Architect - A Sceptics Universe is one of the most technical albums ever.  The vocals are all over the place.  The Bass player is probably one of the most technically proficient players ever.  They hail from Norway.  They super jazzy prog rock influenced heavy metal.  Simply amazing!

Yes he was.  He sat on on many of the dates, not all.  Very cool indeed.  (met Tony Levin on that tour, I believe, for 80's King Crimson lineup).

Jethro Tull. Take a listen to the Songs from the Wood album, or watch a live (from '77) concert clip on youtube of "A Hunting Girl." Complex arrangements, difficult instrumentation, all pulled together by an amazing group of musicians.

Also Dixie Dregs, or The Dregs as they were later known. Jazz fusion.

I was listening to Jethro Tull's Minstrel In The Gallery the other night; great album, wonderful sonics. It may qualify.

A Passion Play is pretty complicated as well.
