Why is the upcoming Neil Young Blu-ray box set so damn expensive?

I love the fact that Neil Young is embracing Blu-ray and wants his soon to be released archive collection presented in Hi-rez, but why the heck is the list price $432 for 10 disc Blu-ray box set?

$43/disc seems like a ridiculously steep price to pay (even for Blu-ray) and will put this out of reach for the majority of people out there.

Hopefully Neil and Warner Bros. will come to their senses and lower the prices between now the expected release date of Feb. 24th 2009.

George, do you have any idea what it costs to keep Neil Young in vintage pink Cadillacs?

Neil Young?!?!

Yeah, I still love his good stuff from the 70's and 80's on vinyl. But this new crap? Who cares? He'll piss all over you in a live concert these days.

As for the price of this new set most of it is probably going to the Blu-ray license. Pretty much like Beta-Max all over again.

This release will cover his material from 1963-1972.

I haven't seen a list of songs yet.

I've been a big Neil Young fan since the early 70's - agree $432 is a crazy price.

I can't comment on the format 'cuz I haven't heard it. But as for neil in the last decade . . .

There was a time (there comes a time,  :thumb:)  when he would've never released on digital without a vinyl release.

I'd love to give him a hard kick in the ass, but I guess his retirement accounts have taken a pretty good hit lately so I can't really fault him too much.

He has made a lot of anti-digital statements.

The only reason it costs that much is because you guys want it.

Interesting comment. At first I balked at it, but one of the presents I opened yesterday was for four seventh row tickets for an upcoming Warriors game that my wife christmased to the family.  I've played basketball all my life. My two boys and I are playing a lot together in the driveway with their friends.  Before this, I would have balked at these prices but now...  It made sense for the family. Go figure.

I want it, but won't spend that much to get it.   :nono:

George, I am in the same boat as you. I have been eagerly anticipating the release of this for at least a year and half. I know Ted has as well. But I cannot figure out what is driving this cost? Is it possible that the cost of mastering of this old live and unreleased material into Lossless audio is much higher then we thing? Dunno, but just a thought...

I hear ya Len.

It costs a small fortune to go to a Yankee game, but I would pretty much pay anything to bring my kids and have them enjoy that experience with their dad.
