500 gig sata drive for my Macbook
« on: 23 Dec 2008, 06:27 pm »
Have a 160 gig now a 500 gig would be nice.

Samsung, Fujitsu and Seagate and I'm sure others make them.  Where to order?  None of my local brick and mortar stores have them.

thx

I got a 640GB at Best Buy for $98 - Western Digital MyBook Essential Edition

This is not 'portable', but I think it does shut down automatically and is 'green'

Sorry,  I want a 2.5 inch internal drive to replace the 160 gig internal drive I have now.

I agree. Macsales is the best, most mac-friendly around. Been dealing with them for years, never had a problem.

+1 for Macsales / OWC

I'd look into also getting their Mercury On the Go drive enclosure, so you can use your old 160Gig drive as a portable. I bought one when I upgraded my drive, and I love it - I have the FW800 version, it is quick, runs on bus power and is convenient. The USB Flash drives are so slow by comparison I only use the On the Go drive for shuttling files around.

I just installed a Seagate 500GB in my MacBook, and it's going fine so far. Seems a bit quieter than the 1.5 year-old 200GB Hitachi TravelStar it replaced.

Bought it from newegg, who've always been good to me.
