SLA battery as P/S for DAC
« on: 16 Dec 2008, 10:55 pm »
Picked up a Cambridge DacMagic upsampling DAC based on a tip from *Scotty*.
It uses a 12V 1500mA wall wart converter. Not sure if the p/s is switching, linear, regulated or not - no indication on the casing or the manual.
Wondering what effect battery power would have.
Have a 12V 7.2aH SLA battery that was used as P/S for SI T-amp.
Would this SLA be compatible with the DAC, assuming polarity of the barrel plug is followed?

Hey!

My NOS DAC run on two 12V 7AH batteries with 30,00uf caps between the line. And this work fine. :D

I'm not sure about your DAC but first make sure that the run on 12DC and not AC. I know is silly but you can't be too careful. If the wall wart adapter is a simple looking one than maybe the regulator is inside the DAC of which is likely. And if it really drawn near 1.5A than I'm not sure how long can you run it with 7.2AH batt.

So, with that I think it should work fine with batt.

BTW... I like my DAC running from batts than wall the cheap 2A wall adapter. :D

But! Since I don't know any thing about your DAC please take my comment with precaution and try it at your own risk!  :?

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Since it's designed for 12v AC, I would NOT use a battery supply.

Thanks Buddy, and especially Scott for taking the time to answer.
Saved me a lotta grief. The casing of the wall wart states: "Output: 12 Volts AC 1500 mAh".
 :duh:
