What a score

I browse a website called Canuck Audio daily.  I rarely buy, I just watch stuff, and see what is moving in the market, and check the values etc.

Today I noticed an M&K VX-7 II, locally, for sale for $140.  Seller was clear that this was a 220v unit, and that it came with a transformer to make it viable here in north america.  Unit described as mint.

Showed up, and was very surprised that this was true.  I was led by online reviews to believe that the unit should be 10+ years old.  Must have been NIB 2 months ago, when this guy bought it, because it is perfect - the unit is just perfect.

Tiny, 16x10x10, sealed 8 inch woofer.  Sits nicely in the corner of my TV room.

Hooked it up to the Panny SAXR-15, and away we go.  Solid foundation for the DIY Cable KIT41's I use in that room.

What a great score for the $100 I paid!

Yeah, it is really rewarding to find a new piece of gear that is purely additive to your system.

To find it for 1/10th of the original MSRP, in mint condition, well that is something to brag about on the 'Net!

The TV room system is very simple, it uses the TV as the pre (the satellite, DVD, VCR all connect to the TV, and one set of RCA's lead to the Panny) and then on to the Panasonic receiver.  Then, the sub gets 100Hz and down, and the 2 KIT41 speakers get 100Hz and up.

Plain and simple 2.1 HT.

By using the TV as the pre, my wife need only use one remote, and that keeps the WAF up.

Funny how she initially protested about my buying another sub (don't ask how many I have around...) but when I suggested I could simply bring up the old 3 cubic foot ported Nakamichi DIY from a couple of years ago, in raw mdf... she was in.

We watched some "Last Action Hero" last night, and she was laughing from the thumps from the explosions.

Makes me want to find a used Yamaha "soundbar" all in 1 speaker/decoder, and get some quasi surround going.

Just a fun experience to get a good deal on a really decent little sub, and make the family have more fun at Christmas.

Keep your eyes open out there folks, you never know what you might stumble across!

I added a pic.

The little sub is barely bigger than the DIYCable KIT41 speakers I built.

I can overdrive the sub, and it does not setup huge waves of bass in the open concept kitchen/family room, but it is perfect to support the sound of the KIT41's, and for TV and light HT use it is the best $100 I have spent!
