When I went to BB the first time today, I thought the morons hadn't gotten this disc in.  I went back a second time for something else and realized the morons had merely dumped them in w/the regular CDs. :nono:

At any rate, really interesting package.  It's a 2 disc set; one disc is DVD-A/DD, the other disc is the regular CD version.  Nice.  A hybrid might be better, but impossible once you see how much bonus stuff they cram into this set.

To cut to the chase:  the music.  I was initially leery of FL, mostly put off by the image and the hype.  But finally after reading a rave review in TAS, I figured it was worth a shot.  I haven't yet listened to the stereo version, but I love the MC one.  This music just cries out for the surround treatment.  Very good bass, interesting mix.  I feel it serves the music well.

I'm hesitant to attempt to describe the music.  I reminds me vaguely of Beck's Sea Change, or maybe of a supergroup of Pink Floyd & Moody Blues members but with Neil Young fronting.  Since I can't really describe the dreamy, synth-y "moodscapes", I guess you'll have to listen for yourself.  Much like Sigur Ros, you'll love this or hate it straight away.  Me, I'm really diggin it.

If you like the Flaming Lips (I do!) then you should check out Built to Spill.  I think they are very much of the same fabric even if they are both quite unique.

Can't wait to fire this disc up.  The stereo CD is a great disc and the music is a natural for multichannel.  As mentioned, word is that it totally rocks, and the MC mix was anything but an afterthought -- supervised by the Lips and they had fun with it.

I searched all my local haunts for this disk and could not find it anywhere. How do these guy's expect the new formats to survive if no one stocks any decent stuff  :o I guess I will go back and see if they did what Rob said and just put it in with the regular CD's.

It's packaged in a regular sized CD jewel case, too, mca.  The only outward sign is that it has a sticker on it proclaiming it as a DVD-A disc.

Picked this up (DVD-A) recently and finally gave it a surround listen.  As mentioned in previous post, PFloyd, MBlues fans should like this disc.  The DVDA MC layer is quite aggressive.  Fullrange all around is a treat.

Found it this weekend. Your right, there is not much on the package to let you know what it is, have to spot the small DVD-A logo up top. I gave it a listen and boy, it was worth searching for  :D

Am a fan of the Lips and got this disk at deepdiscountdvd.com -- it's a blast.  The material and the band are a great fit for surround.  They really experimented w/the format.
