FS: Hornshoppe Horns - SOLD plus shipping
« on: 13 Dec 2008, 05:23 am »
Ok, my Omega speakers aren't really selling like I thought they would.

Instead, I offer to you my other pair of trusty speakers - the Hornshoppe Horns.  I bought them from the original owner on Audiogon two years ago.  They supplanted Klipsch Lascalas at the time (they're a lot of speaker, and you really need the room and electronics to do them justice).  The Hornshoppe Horns definitely had an "it" factor that I still love, so I sold the large Lascalas.  They've served me well, and I really wouldn't be selling them but for my desire to free funds for a substantial upgrade (fingers crossed...I hope).

No significant nicks/scratches that I can see.  These are standard oak with basic finish, and they don't look nearly as bad as all the press says.  They have the current 126 drivers rather than the original 108's.  They're diminutive for the sound and really get out of the way of the music.  That, and Ed's a gem when it comes to supporting his product.  One thing's for sure - you'll never be left out in the cold with one of his products!

I wanted to keep these for a bit in case I wanted to upgrade to Ed's new Model 3.  Guess that will have to wait a while.  These would be a great starter set if you're intrigued by the Model 3's.

Since they will be third-hand, I'll let them go for $450 plus shipping.  Money order and Paypal accepted.

Go Rod!  Hope you can join the ranks of we Horn owners.

To the seller, how do you like your Asus?  Just got one myself.

Yeah, it's a reluctant sell.  Asus?  It's an interesting little bugger.  Didn't think the keyboard would be an issue, but it's smallness does bug me a bit.  I'm also still getting used to linux.  Scrapped the cheesy Asus version and went with Ubuntu EEE version, which is nice.  However, it doesn't let you disable clicking by tapping the touchpad, and this is quite annoying.  I got the 901 unit with the new Atom processor and larger battery.  So far, battery is not the 7-8 hours quoted, but a solid 5-6, which is quite respectable.  I mostly use it in my AV system for computer audio streaming, but also with VGA out to my TV for internet video.  I don't have cable/satellite, so I'm getting hip to all the online video content through Hulu, etc.  Pretty decent for free  :)

Your thoughts?

Oh, I got the desktop version -- if you could call it that.  It's about the size of a larger paperback.  I got mine with XP because I can't run my screen reader under linux.  I haven't even been able to get to hook it up yet, but it will be serving tunes and videos in the living room system using the DVI out.  Still need to get a wireless kb for it though.

I have an Acer Aspire One with the 160 gb drive and 6-cell battery pack as a transport for the usb dac in my office system, and so far this is a great little machine.  I'm getting another to replace my other ancient laptops with -- for general use.

I'm blind so I don't really care about the screen, and although small, the keyboard does work well, even for my arthritic fingers.

Desktop version?  I assume that's one of the 1000 versions?  It might have a slightly larger keyboard.  It's not unmanageable, I just wouldn't want to be doing a lot of word processing with it.  A wireless keyboard would be nice.  I'm having issues with my bluetooth mouse, although I think it might be the mouse.  It'll be great once I have it all figured out, but it takes time, unfortunately.  Good luck with yours!

Don't remember the model number, but if you search for asus eee box on amazon, you'll find the description.

They were sold out all over the place, but I finally got one through bhphotovideo.com, and they had the best price too -- $278.  It really is just a box with i/o ports, but they do include a usb keyboard and wireless mouse.

Good luck,

Jim
