parallel SETs... chinese prices

I've been curious about this design as a way to get the SET sound from less sensitive speakers.  Anyone have a take on this iteration? http://cgi.ebay.com/FreeShipping-ST-300B-Class-A-Integrated-Amplifier_W0QQitemZ130274811769QQihZ003QQcategoryZ3280QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

No one wants to hear that.  Even though it is exactly true.  I've been buying US as a casual philosophy for a number of years - meaning most of the time.  It's now a personal jihad (call it an economic holy war).

It looks like a lot of amp for the money but it also looks pretty risky. It might be a great amp but there are also lots of stories of amps from fly-by-night Chinese companies that no longer exist when your amp breaks after 100 hours. If you really want to save money by buying a Chinese amp you should by from a local distributor who will back up the product.

Hey!

   Nice case work. :D

But what's under the hood and those huge transformer covers?

When is come to tube amp, especially SET or SE type output transformer is very critical. If the output transformer is no good than nothing else before that matters.

Also, this amp seem to use uncommon front end tubes.

Anyway, I would say that save a bit more money and look for a use SET or SE amp available here in the US or wherever you are. :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

I have a dozen of that company's earlier amps in my garage... they were given to me by Ian of Grant Fidelity -- not even much usable salvage in them. Some of the packing boxes were useful thou.

Admittedly the chassis on the one in the eBay auction looks a lot less "fall-apart-able"
