This may be a silly question but...

Does this have to use Itunes?  I have everything in FLAC and have no real interest in Apple Lossless.  It may be fine, so I am not trying to incite a debate.  I did visit the site and reviewed some of the screenshots and thought it looked really cool.

No.  It's an application independant of iTunes.  It communicates with the SqueezeCenter server, pulling data and artwork and sending commands back to control players connected to the server.

There's also another, similar, iPod Touch/iPhone application called iPeng that works in the same manner.  And a third one in the works.

Well, to a certain degree that's depends on your preferences.

As a comparison to the controller:
Today, the controller has more functionality and you have quick access to hardware buttons for volume and play/pause/skip and it acts as a player
The iPhone/iPod has a bigger display and a touch screen, which makes it more flexible, so browsing large lists is faster and some things look nicer, e.g. the Internet Radios/Music Services.
iPeng is especially strong if you want to use multiple players because it has a "MultiPlayer" contol that gives you access to all of them in one place.

I have an iTouch and have used Squidgy, but have also used iPeng.  I prefer iPeng and love it!
