Recommendation for 32" TV for Bedroom needed
« on: 9 Dec 2008, 05:01 pm »
Hi,
I"m looking to buy my wife a 32" flat panel TV for small room or most likely bedroom.  How much difference will we actually see in viewing 720p or 1080p from about 8-10 ft away?

She'll watch mostly regular TV,  a few DVD's and limited HD TV.  Would be nice to stay in the reasonable $$ range.   I have a basement HT project and will be definitely going with 1080p PJ system.

Thanks,

Rob S.

Check out LG brand. bought two one plasma one LCD [42"] awesome. Compared to pioneer and panasonic. We could not tell the difference. Bought both for $1900 at PC Richards. The key to this whole deal is the HDMI connection and cable box that has HDMI output. At first with the old cable box we were ready to return the TVs, we drove the salesperson nuts. when the new cable boxes were put in and the TV turned on the salesman was spot on. Fantastic picture, BTW we bought the salesman a nice bottle of wine. He was correct. LGs are pretty darn good.

At 32" and 8-10ft 1080p would be a waste of money. As long as it is a quality panel the resolution difference would be nil at that size and distance. Black levels, color reproduction and response would be bigger concerns there... The Panny 42PX80U plasma is a steal nowadays - widely selling for under $800 these days and the image quality is truly remarkable. I got one last week and viewing at 8ft the image is fantastic and I'd stack it against panels costing twice what I paid for it (which was a LOT less than 800 ).   :D

I agree, for 32" 720p just fine. I also agree that Panny is a nice TV. However, a 42" plasma is a long way from a 32" LCD bedroom TV. I suspect most people can't easily fit a 42" display into their bedroom, I know I couldn't.

I've seen some 32" LG, Samsung and Sony Bravia models as low as $599 at B&Ms lately. Element, Vizio and Oleivo can be had for under $400.

I think you'd be surprised how easy a 42" will fit in most bedrooms. Once you put it on the wall. It doesn't look nearly as large as you might think. I use a 42" Samsung Plasma in my bedroom...it looks great. Much better than the 36" CRT.. I used previously. The Vizio Plasma doesn't look too shabby at all. You may want to take a look at them.

thanks for the feedback,  I actually squeezed a 37" Samsung 550  60Hz in our bedroom armoire.  Decided to cash in on my Best Buy cards and there was slim pickin' in the 720p sets.  Oh, and the price game they had was the A350 720p set was priced at 899 ( way way too high) and the 1080p A550 was the same price.  Nice picture though and a hair more than I wanted to spend, but I'm trying to help our economy.  :)
