I could not stand it any more, A friend had a couple of shims under one side of VPI hw-19 TT so i threw this together for him





2" thick center piece

bottom is 1/2" mdf dadod  in with another 1/2" piece of mdf green glued to it to kill vibration from the stand

Ed, that is really nice! I could see my new AR turntable project mounted right to the topboard. Then a smaller "raft" for the stand alone motor assembly. You guys are way too talented. My attempt would look more like Homer Simpson's B-B-Q.

Yea it didn't come out to bad the only thing i had to buy was the green glue, everything else i had laying around from different projects. That was the last of my veneer i had left over fron the Selah audio Tanzinetes and some mdf from the RC-5g's If i build any more i would have to start buying material. I went down to the local granite place to check on a piece of granite and they wanted $100 for a piece 16 x 21

Nice job Ed. Obviously, I really like the Waterfall Bubinga I am working on something similar for one of my turntables.
 I have probably 16 sheets of WF Bubinga left but have to finish up a large project for a customer that will take up much of the veneer. Maybe some Figured Koa I have laying around

I like the look a lot also, I bought a veneer lot (7 sheets) from http://www.veneersupplies.com/, that was 13" wide and 67" long  Nice place to do business with and a lot of tips for the armature.  You do some gorgeous work your self. My brothers the finisher in the family He really good. Me i prefer the building end so i'm still working on the finishing part of the operation. That piece was sanded down to 1200 grit then 6 coats of water born polly, wet sanded at 1200 and 3 more coat wet sanded again and a finish coat.

How about a granite surface plate from Grizzly - 18" x 24" x 3" thick for $39.95 (#G9654)?  Yes, I know the freight is almost twice the granite cost.  I'm just suggesting a possible source.  Grizzly granite surface plates: http://www.grizzlyindustrial.com/products/searchresults.aspx?q=granite
Their surface plate stands might make a good TT stand - could even hide the steel with MDF and veneer it.

That is really gorgeous!  Makes me want to rethink my maple/blk walnut theme.

Careful with the granite as a shelf, even with a sandbox. I tried it and it caused quite a bit of mid-range smearing. Now I have things sitting on Stillpoints to isolate them from the granite as much as possible. As always YMMV.
