I am selling my Audio by Van Alstine (AVA) FetValve 350 EXR6 amplifier.  The price is $799 $899 and I will pay shipping to the contiguous US States and will eat any PayPal fees.

I think that the price is fair noting that it is less than half price for a new 350 FetValve amplifier, which goes for $1949.  And if you need the latest and greatest, I can ship the amplifier to Frank Van Alstine where it can be upgraded for $699.  That is still $451 $350 off of a brand new amplifier, which it would be at that point.

Thanks for looking.

Tom,

How old is the amp? Also, could you please describe the difference between this one and your AVA 550 Ultra? I am talking about the sound.

Thanks,
Art

Hi Art,

I am the second owner of the amplifier so I can't definitively confirm the age of the amp, however, the serial number had 05 as the last two digits so I believe that it was updated in 2005.  When I get home from work this evening, I'll post the whole serial number.

I was very keen to hear the sound differences between the EXR6 and the Ultra amps.  Reviews tend to focus on night and day differences but my impression after hearing both is that the differences are very slight between these two amplifiers.  The Ultra might have more controlled bass in the sense that there is better definition to the lower notes.  The Ultra might also have a quieter background.  Of course, I could be simply justifying my Ultra purchase too.  My wife saw the EXR6 amp on the floor after I had swapped it for the Ultra and she thought I was still listening to the EXR6 amp so there isn't an easily discernible difference without a concerted effort to pay attention to different aspects of the music.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Cheers,
Tom

I verified the serial number for the amp and it is 032105m.  I assume it was upgraded on March 21, 2005.

Just a little over 2 weeks until Christmas.  This amp would make a great gift.

Wednesday bump.

Where did the term Wednesday come from?  Below is a little history:

The name comes from the Middle English Wednes dei, which is from Old English language Wēdnes dæg, meaning the day of the English god Woden (Wodan) who was a god of the Anglo-Saxons in England until about the 7th century. Wēdnes dæg is like the Old Norse Oðinsdagr ("Odin's day"), which is an early translation of the Latin dies Mercurii ("Mercury's day"), and reflects the widespread association of Woden with Mercury going back to Tacitus.

Cheers,
Tom

Incredible amp at the low price of $799.  The buyer is responsible for shipping charges.  My zip is 68516 for estimating shipping charges.  I can't imagine that this amp would last long on AudioGon at this price.

Cheers,
Tom

Added note: Some very proper Brits of my acquaintance pronounce the "d" in Wednesday. It comes out like "Wedens day."
