Guitar interface for a Mac?
« on: 4 Dec 2008, 01:45 pm »
I've been pretty 'successful' with GarageBand of late, using an M-Audio Radium USB midi controller. Lots of fun! I'd like to take it to the next level and add some guitar tracks to the mix and am looking for a decent yet cheap USB or firewire interface which is completely compatible with OSX. I know the Apogee Duet was made just for this very purpose (utilizing Core Audio), but it's more than I really want to pay at $500.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

I use the M-Audio Mobile Pre USB for room and amp measurements with my Macbook and it works fine with mic and/or line input.  I've never tried it but I don't see any reason a direct in guitar wouldn't work there too.

WOW!

2 microphone inputs (XLR balanced) with 48v phantom power
2 high-impedance instrument/line inputs (1/4 in. balanced)
Gain control knob for each input channel (+40 dB max)
Zero-latency hardware direct monitoring with software level control

Perfect! And the price is right. Thanks for the info.

EDIT: Just placed an order with Amazon ($106!!)
