Well, the Bryston sound is not for everyone. Maybe you should switch to whatever brand you like best. That's the whole fun of it anyway: shop around until you find what sounds great to your ears, especially if your dealer agrees that it probably is nothing that can be fixed (by comparing against previous Bryston integrated amps (s)he has sold). Regarding power, I tend to agree with Werd. My B&W 804S speakers rated at 200W 90dB sens, sounded great on 4BSST (300wpc), but sounded even greater on 14BST (600wpc). And soundstaging has never been a problem for me.

Ok the b-60 is back home.

The b-60 was sent to the importer and i was told that they found that the bias setting was certainly not on spec.

my first quick listening sessions let me conclude that there is more space,3d etc. than before, the flat wall of sound is gone and voices sound more "normal" than before.

Am i happy now ?  well not quite because in the absence of the b-60 i have lived with a symphonicline rg14 edition amp that sounds better i.m.o.

later more news.

Ok a question

how does an b-60 sst compare to a b100 sst soundwise ??

is there much difference in build between the used intergrated pre and poweramp ?

In the near future i can try a b-100 sst at home because i,m still not happy with the b-60

Daffy

btw here's a new review of the b-60 sst from what hifi mag. http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Bryston-B60R/

Hi Daffy,

I have always felt that given your system and issues with the B60 that the B100 was really the unit you should have. The B100 just sounds much more controlled and spacial due to the fact it has twice the power of the B60.

Hello again,

I had a b-100 at home for a week to see if this was the solution for my "problems" with the b-60, the answer is a big nope.

There was a  very small difference between the two , the b-100 had a tiny, tiny bit more sparkle and slam but the sound was still as flat as a pancake.
so just as i personally thought more power was not the solution, just like the b60 pre with a 2b sst end  before made no big difference. (sorry James)

So it's sad  :( to say out goes the Bryston b-60 and in comes the Symphonic line rg14 edition.
coupled with the bcd-1 in my setup there is so much more depth, space, magic, emotion, involvement etc. with the symphonic line , it's almost unbelievable.
Even the wife thinks so and she couldn't care less, so the difference is certainly not subtle.

I really tried hard to like the the sound of the b-60 (and b100,b60pre+2bsst) but it just didn't work for me.
Probably my Kef's don't match that well with Bryston amps  :o ???  :dunno:
or maybe i'm not ready for the Bryston sound

Daffy,

great news that you are finally satisfied with your sound.
I really don't want to spoil your joy, correct me if I am wrong, but I think you're found some elements in Marantz sound more appealing than Bryston at the moment. That doesn't mean that Marantz would be better for you lately. It is very good idea to give a chance for any new amplifier to come on song. Some need some more time to finally open up.
Why not to ask Bryston dealer to properly burn in amp so you can give it a second chance, just like that (?)
Buying expensive gear should not be impulsive and patient is very welcome.

Sorry if my post is too much 'directed', but I have some miles in my legs.  :)

Best,
Oz

As James said, enjoy.

I've one of these still in my roster and still working 100%

although it went to the sidelines in the 80's after 10+ years  of service when the  the Bryston .5/2BLP combo arrived.

Hi Daffy

As you said it has been a long road but I think most of us who tried to help way back yonder are still scratching our heads wondering why.
But the Marantz works for you and that is what counts.
