GTG/mini-rave in NE Ohio
« on: 1 Dec 2008, 03:16 pm »
I'm putting out a feeler for a get-togther/mini-rave of AC'ers in NE Ohio

Let's do it at my place (I'll PM later with address, etc.  Don't want it here).

 Features both 2 channel and multi-channel listening:
2 channel
* SP Tech Reveleations w/ Ultimate Mundorf external crossovers
* Spectron Musician III Mark 2 monoblocks
* Modwright LS 36.5 two box dual mono preamp
* Modwright Transporter w/ latest hyper-drive and Bybee upgrades
* Modwright Denon 3910 Universal Sig Truth mods
* Rega p5 turntable, Dynavector

Multichannel
* add SP Tech Continuum AD's for center and surrounds (also with Ultimate Mundorfs)
* MW Denon3910 and/or Oppo 980 for SACD/DVD-A surround
* Panny BD35K blu-ray for Blu-ray music surround

I'd LOVE for someone to bring a tube amp (or monos) that we could gain match to the Spectrons to try bi-amping a tube/ss setup!!  :drool:
Or any other source...or a set of monitors to try with the Spectrons...etc etc.

Would need to be after the holidays, say early January???  I'm planning to finally have the riser installed (behind first row) and new carpet and paint (i.e black ceiling and slope, dark gray walls  :o ).  Regardless, we'll have room for, say, 10 or so.

Thanks to Mark (Carusoracer) for the idea, and the invite to his place.  We could do either, but more of us live up north here, I think.  Either way I'm good.

GTG'ers are always a pleasant and welcomed event :)
January sounds like a good time to hold this also. I am in Columbus.
I have always wanted to hear Modwright and Spectron products.
Please PM me with details when appropriate. Thanks.

I'm having one January 10 in Michigan in case anyone was planning to come my way and now wants to go Ted's way.  We'll work it out.  I put it on the Calendar a week or so ago but did not make any announcement.  If we don't conflict then I might drive over to Ted's!  Never heard any SP's.

I'm in NE Ohio (between Akron and Cleveland), and would be up for a get together. Sometimes it seems like this is audio no mans land. It's not the highest end gear compared to Ted's system, but I have Omega Super 5s and Hornshoppe Horns I'd be happy to bring either if someone wanted to hear them.

I'll make sure we don't conflict.  I'm now rededicating myself to get the remodel/painting ordered and done.  I'll plan on mine being after the 15th sometime.  I'd love to come up (2 hr for me) on the 10th.

Eric,  I'd love to hear either.  Have you ever touched base with Mark Senior down in Canton?  I need to ping him.  Great system!

Hey,

This sounds good. Ted, let's get a confirmation of the date and I will arrange to make it up North from Columbus. I have a Lightly Modded Jolida 302b with some Mundorf caps in it I can bring. If you have any KT88's we can put them in as well.

No worries on taking the lead, I do want to host one sometime as I welcome others to critique/swap listen to my rig. There are some pretty darn good ears with in this group.

BRM, let me know of the date as I wanted to make it up as well. Had a great time just taking it all in last visit and now looking to visit again.

Cheers.

OK, let's try JANUARY 24th.  It's also the off week for the NFL playoff schedule (Super Bowl is following weekend).

Lemme know.

I'm in Cleveland and I'd love to drop over and hear the SP-Techs.

I don't have any gear worth contributing though.

Great Idea!!  I live in Hinckley.  Unfortunately for me I am busy in Canton until 5 pm on January 24th.  I do have a tube amp that I just built that puts out 60 wpc in pentode and 30 wpc in triode.  If the 24th is the date I wish everyone a great time and I'll just have to make the next Rave.

Regards,

Rklein,
C'mon by after that.  You are 90 minutes.  We'll still be raving.  :)

UPDATE:  I gotta postpone the GTG, sorry.  The 24th is coming wayyyyyyy too quickly and I've not done anything yet to the room (carpet, paint, riser or any combo thereof) that I want to do before the GTG.  It will not be postponed for long, but assume a couple weeks.  Thx

I am here to tell you that I've yet to do anything except order carpeting.  I'm likely gonna get the carpenter in here in the next 2 weeks to install the riser, then have the new carpeting put down.  My main stumbling block is this: I'm toying seriously with the idea of having the front soundstage (first 5 or 6 feet) be solid surface like wood or tile.  I don't want to add too much liveliness but thought it would break up the room a bit and add an area where i can move equipment while carpeting is going down, too.  I've not made a decision.

Tile is nice because it does not scratch, but wood looks so nice.

Stranded Bamboo is the bomb!!  Probably needs glued down because nailing is difficult due to its hardness.  Make sure it is Stranded as the other types of bamboo flooring tend to scratch fairly easily.  People have reported having multiple large dogs and having no scratching issues.

I am sorry about the rave delay.  However, I probably couldn't have made that date anyway.  The delay gives me a chance to finish my speakers and possible bring them up as well as a tube amp I recently completed.

I'm picking out carpet and colors this weekend and early next week.  Carpenters should have called last week re: riser...but didn't.   :flame:    I'm getting there.  :)

Update:  The riser is installed!!  Yeah (what a pain; moved out all my surround stuff, my video and mch audio rack, rear sofa area stuff, etc.).  it was worth it, though, cuz we also cleaned up all the cabling issues by moving a couple of ac outlets, adding one, consolidated the surround cabling from the wall, and generally redid the back third of the room.  All the flooring (riser, that is) and drywall work is done.  The painters are scheduled for April 1 (no fooling), and the carpet will be ordered in the next day or so.  It's getting close....just as Audio Central shuts down.   :(   I'll find a reasonably relevant Circle to re-post ny GTG invite in, once we're close.  Looks like a late April, May 1 kind of thing.  Thanks....
