Need advice on wire
« on: 1 Dec 2008, 10:26 am »
Is there an audiophile-grade Romex I can use for a dedicated circuit?  I need a three-wire cable, as this will be a 240V line.  Need two hot wires, a neutral and a ground in a 10 or 12 gauge.  I have seen two-wire cable, but not three.  And how about a single receptacle for 240V?  I need a NEMA 6-20, which I can find in a hospital grade, but not audiophile.  This would not be as important as the cable, though.  I will be running a 240v/120v transformer from the wall to equipment.  Thanks to all for any advice.

The Hubbell hbl5461 should meet your needs for a receptacle-

Stayonline.com is an excellent retailer and also has the hbl5462 duplex version.
I don't have personal experience with these 240vac outlets, but use the 120vac versions extensively. These are the highest grade of industrial specification hard use straight blade plugs with non plated brass contacts and backstraps.

Yes, Oyaide makes some audio grade in wall wiring, as does Cardas, I don't offer either at this time, not sure who does.

FWIW--I have cryo'd thousands and thousands of feet of in wall wiring (on a case by case basis), I generally like the Southwire brand Romex, which is a registered trademark of Southwire, Inc.  This can be picked up at Home Depot.

If you want some quick--Chris VH may have some cryo'd in-wall wiring in stock.

FYI--or the NEMA 6-20, check this out:

I ordered this in for a customer a long time ago and then he decided to go another route, I'm tired of looking at it.  If you want it for the cost of shipping, it is yours, I'm tired of looking at it collecting dust.

EDIT--Looks like Alan at Audio Excellence AZ has the Cardas in wall.  It's really nicely made.

Peace,

Lee
