Thanks for the link John, I've got a budding 8 year old David Bailey who has a camera on his 3 page Santa list, so the timing is perfect.
I've always rated the DPReview site and also found the following link to the Panasonic LZ8:

Thank you as well.  I just picked up the Nikon L18.  Couldn't find the Panasonic L28 but I did see the Cannon A590IS.  I liked the Cannon's zoom and stablilzaion but didn't like the ergonomics for my first time user wife.  The Nikon zoomed quicker and is smaller.  For $100 if fit in the gift limit.  Now I can shoot a couple of shots of my room/system after Christmas  :D
