Bel Canto users' opinions please?
« on: 26 Nov 2008, 09:56 am »
I'm getting more interested in Bel Canto but don't know much about the company or their reputation.  Can anyone comment on general Bel Canto product quality & reliability,  customer service / support, etc.?   FWIW I am looking at their current cd player,  I think labeled CD-2.

Hi,

I have an older bel canto pre1 preamp that I recently purchased.  It is good quality and sounds great in my system.

I didn't care much for an integrated amplifier that I had in my system about a year ago.  It looked good.

Do you have an opportunity to hear the gear in my own system?

Regards

Rod

Unfortunately I do not have an easy way to try any Bel Canto stuff in person.   I should mention that I would use their CD-2 as a transport only.   Hence why I'm more interested in learning about build quality,  customer service, etc. rather what their stuff sounds like.  I'm a Bryston user,  so spoiled I guess when it comes to warranty and customer support.

I'm a Bel Canto dealer, so take this however you'd like:

I've been a dealer for them for almost 3 years now, and I have only had one unit come back for a repair; it was a DAC3, and there was an issue with the digital input.  The issue arose about a month after purchase, and after I reviewed the unit with the customer, Bel Canto replaced it with a brand-new one within a week (they shipped directly to the customer even before they received the broken unit back from me).  Note that Bel Canto products have been my best-sellers over the last two years, so having only one unit come back out of dozens of units sold is IMHO pretty good.

I can't speak to the CD-2 as I don't have a demo unit and I don't have any customers who have bought one (most of my customers are into computer-based music), but I'll say that the reliability of their other products and their customer service has been top-notch...
