I have now have about 25 hours on one of Chris' BPT "BAT" supplies for the Squeezebox 3 and thought I would report my impressions.   For point of reference, my system consists of VAC 70/70 monoblocs, Dodd Preamp, GNSC modded Opus 21 cdp, Sqeezebox 3 with Bolder Digital Enthusist mods and Merlin TSM-MMe monitors.  I run the Squeezebox into the Opus with a Purist Audio Aqueous digital cable.

Cutting to the chase, this is a marvelous power supply.  I was previously using another popular power supply for the SB3 and noticed only marginal improvement, if at all.   However, the BAT combined with the Dodd battery powered preamp results in a noise floor that is seemingly non-existent.    The low noise floor results in a level of detail that is quite amazing.    Suffice it to say, I could not be more pleased.

As an aside, Chris has been excellent to work with and the customer service experience was excellent.   Highly recommended :thumb:

The more I listen to the BPT power supply the more I like it ! Chris did some extra mods to my supply the other day and it is sounding better than ever. This is by far the best SB3 power supply I have tried. Chris does great work and has helped bring my entire system to a higher level.

hey Rick,

I have to jump in here as our listen last week even before the latest tweak removed yet another layer.  So smooth and an ultra low noise floor- It's hard to believe I just bought a cd player after hearing just how good the SB route can be.  :duh:

All,

I'm finally getting around to posting this followup. I've been using the BPT modded Squeezebox SB3 in my system now for about 4 weeks and I can sum up my feelings in a single word which is "Wow." In my mini review above, I mentioned that the mod added greater silence between notes and better high frequency and bass detail. Now that the added parts are fully burned in these traits have remained but what was gained was a magical bit of warmth in the midrange and further benefits in depth of soundstage. Performers that were about 3-4 ft behind my speaker plane now have extended at least two feet or more further back. My system is more dynamic as well following the burn-in.

Dynamics is an area where I always felt the modded squeezebox was weaker than some of the better dedicated CD players I have used. This is no longer the case with this mod! Overall my system sounds better than ever due to this relatively inexpensive mod.  :drums:

To confirm my findings, I had another local guy Bryan bring over his Statement modded SB3 and compare it with mine (Enthusiast level with further BPT mods) and in my system the BPT unit won out. I was surprised at the difference since Bryan's unit had beaten mine in past shootouts. To make a long story short this mod is staying in my system!

After listening to the differences Rick points out, I had Chris do the additional mods to mine also.  Unfortunately, I've been buried and haven't gotten back over there to pick it up  :duh:  I'm looking forward to getting it back and burning it in.  Once I do, I'll have the chance to listen both on my Dynaudios and on my Acoustats which should really let me hear the differences.
