"System Synergy" explained!

So when you combine the 'best' CDP,  'best' preamp, 'best' amp, 'best' speakers and 'best' cables, often this means draining a big hole in your bank account, you would expect to get the 'PERFECT' system in the world??  aa

Let's examine how 'nature' works.

So if you combine
(1) best eye in the world from Katie Holmes

(2) best nose in the world from Katherine Heigl

(3) best cheeks in the world from Keira Knightley

(4) best hair in the world from Jessica Simpson

Last but not least the best lips in the world

And your dream for perfection shall be fulfilled - THE PERFECT FACE :green: :green::

I don't know, the rest of Keira's parts aint bad, I'll take her flaws and all.  If I had all your recommended components I think I'd be spending a little more time in my listening room but I think my wife would get pissed if I tried to remove the grills.

That's just a bad plastic surgery approach to perfection, thus proving that a perfect system is greater than the sum of it's part's.
All of the women look perfectly fine to me and need no improvements, beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

It's all about the golden ratio. Those women all have got their geometry working for them. Yes, when you combine from different photo angles you get comedy, but when you do the hardcore alignment and computer modeling you get all sorts of interesting stuff:

I don't see the relation to audio, though.  Personally I find "system synergy" to be a kind of silly, albeit harmless audiophile expression for one's opinion being, "Hey cool, I like how my stereo sounds!" :dunno:

I think the point is that all the best components might not lead up to the best system...

I think that is exactly the message from OP. System synergy is not as simple as putting together the 'best' or the most expensive components. System synergy is about "the sum being greater than the parts that used to make up the system".

I actually think it is a very good analogy to 'audiophile' world. I would pick any of the five women over the 'PERFECT' combination of them. Not only that, if you let 10 people choose which woman looks the prettiest, you will never get a consensus - isn't it the same with respect to high end sound system - that every one has a different taste and is looking for different sound?
