I thought it might be a fun thread for us all to list the top 10 discs that are in high rotation right now (as opposed to of all time) in your system.  Comments about the particulars of the album would be useful.

My own in no particular order are:

1) White Stripes - Elephant
2) Radiohead - HTTT
3) Radiohead - Kid A
4) Built to Spill - Ancient Melodies of the Future  (This is a great alb!)
5) Flaming Lips - Yoshimi ...
6) Nathanm's Metal Sampler (thanks Nate!)
7) Tool - Aenema
8) Monty Alexander - Live at the Montreaux Festival
9) Getz and Gilberto  (I love brazilian jazz!)
10) Hotel Costes - La Suite

Anyway I will add comments later...

I've been listening to nothing but Bach for 2 weeks straight now, mainly the keyboard works and the solo violin and solo cello works.

Current FAVES -- Used primarily for comparing new cables and pieces in my system:

1.  Joni Mitchell For the Roses:  Very familar with how this should sound off analog   and thus works for me checking out cables and equipment in digital realm.  Good stuff and a test for the crossovers  :o  in the speaks as well since the vocal range is so broad.

2.  Bonnie Raitt -- Home Plate:  Much the same as above concerning familiarity  :D  and thus serves the purpose of evaluating what the hell happened when I plugged in _____ instead of _____   .

3.  Susan Werner -- Last of the Good Straight Girls:  Nice stuff I really enjoy her style.  A better prepped CD than the older stuff so it's nice for comparison :) .

4.  Shemekia Copeland -- Talking to Strangers:  Testing bass resolution  :?  and imaging with this.  She has some cuts on this where she's duetting with Dr. John   that really shine when done right.

5.  Allman Brothers -- Eat a Peach:  Just a couple of cuts off this to hear some of the stuff I want to hear through the changes.

6.  Patricia Barber -- Cafe Blue:  Soundstage and imaging check. :!:   The music is good the matering better.

7.  Steely Dan -- Countdown to Ecstacy:  Just some good old stuff trying to pick up additional details etc.    8)

8.  Stacey Kent -- Dreamsville -- What can I say -- I just like the stuff here.  Very nice takes on the music. :D

9.  Leon Russell -- Best Of:  You have to really like Leon to enjoy it.  His songcrafting is wonderful :o   Some of the tracks on this show where the equipment is weak (Lady Blue)  and some where the recording is weak (Masquerade)   and some are just fun (Queen of the Roller Derby) .

10.  Gretchen Lieberbrun -- Dreamsville:  Just found her and am getting to enjoy the stuff more and more.  At first listen there didn't seem to be as much "emotion"  :(  in the presentation as in some other femal voclaists but I'm finding more as I listen to her a little closer. :)

Somewhat all over the board but much of what I listen to at the moment is planned just to see if what I have done to the system has helped or hindered. :!:

Well this changes often, but for now:

1)  Alison Krauss - Live and New Favorite - Both these are equally good.  Great sound quality as well. . .
2)  Cure - Trilogy DVD - I've been burning this one up downstairs on the Sony with some little old Aliantes. . ;-)  If you AT ALL like the Cure, get this!  The remasters of all the Trilogy albums are out next year too BTW.
3)  Dark Star Orchestra w/Steve Kimock - Live bootleg - Once you get past the DSO's scary imitations of the Dead, Steve Kimock is a treat with these guys, or with any freaking band he plays with.  If you like guitar, or etheral, crazy guitar, this guy is great.  Jerry Garcia once said Kimock was his favorite guitarist.
4)  Kill Bill Soundtrack - If you have seen the movie, what the hell are you doing WITHOUT this!?!?
5)  Randy Newman - Songbook Vol. 1 (thanks to Spud) - Real good stuff.  Very emotional.  The guy is a great songwriter. . .
6)  Max Bruch - Violin Concerto 2 - This is a new one for me, and I am liking it very much.  Good stuff. .
7)  Monty Alexander - Live at Montreaux - BradV introduced me to this long ago, and I sold my LP to Josh, and finally was able to find the CD version!  Thx J!
8)  Outkast - The Love Below - Very interesting stuff.  Really talented guys.
9)  Jerry Garcia Band - Live - Senor makes me want to just. . Anyway. . .Is ANY Bob Dylan song over 7 minutes not just a masterpiece?  ESPECIALLY when Garcia sings them. . .
10)The Grateful Dead - Live Without a Net - My favorite Dead disc of the released ones.  Very nice version of Looks Like Rain, and Eyes with horns!

1 - Bill Evans: Sunday At the Village Vanguard (XRCD) - One of Evans' most well known performances.  Great recording.  Very relaxing.
2 - Patricia Barber: Companion (XRCD) - My favorite Barber recording.  Bass line on track 2 ("Use Me") is a nice test for your system.
3 - Seal: Seal IV - A gift from a friend from Warner Music.  The Seal "sound" but more up-beat.  Not bad.
4 - Bolling: Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio - First heard this piece performed by some really talented musicians from my high school over 20 years ago.  Light-hearted stuff...great if you've got little kids in the house.  Recording isn't bad, either.
5 - Wes Montgomery: Full House - One of my favorite jazz recordings of all time.  Is *always* in the top 10 rotation!
6 - Jian Wang: Presenting Jian Wang - Debut recording of a talented young cellist from China recorded over 10 years ago.  Jian Wang was discovered as a 9 year old cello prodigy by Isaac Stern in 1979's documentary, "From Mao to Mozart".  Wang has made a few recordings since, but this one is still my favorite.
7 - McLaughlin/DiMeola/De Lucia: Friday Night in San Francisco:  Another favorite recording that is always in my top 10 rotations!  The most amazing live acoustic guitar performance you will ever hear.
8 - Miles Davis: Kind of Blue:  Until I left this CD at Mcrespo's home, I was listening to this Japanese (May 2000) remaster almost daily.
9 - Jeff Beck: Wired:  My favorite rock guitarist.  Surprisingly well-recorded for the time/place it was done.
10 - Jimmy Smith: Root Down:  A couple of weeks ago, a potential customer came to hear my system and expressed a love for live jams.  This was the first disc I put on for him.  It's been a regular in the rotation since.

 9) Getz and Gilberto (I love brazilian jazz!)

Josh,

is this the SACD, the CD, or the Vinyl?

I have the SACD and just wondered if when Astrud sings solo from the right side,(first cut "long version") if you heard what sounds like a "brushed closed hi hat" slightly to the left?

When Stan comes in the cymbals are "really" there, but when she is singing, they are more subdued.  They are right at the edge of perception in my set up.  So much so that with the Shunyata Python Power Cord I couldn't hear them and with the BPT L-9 I could.

A/Bd it about 4 times to see and it was a definite difference.

If it's on vinyl or the regualr CD it might not even be there "or" it might be even better??

Hi John,

I have this CD (is one of my all-time favorites!)...1997 Verve Master Edition remaster on red book CD.  Are you talking about a hi hat to the left side of the soundstage?  Or on the right side of the soundstage just slightly left of Astrud?  On my system, I can hear the brushed closed hi hat clear as day on the left soundstage when it starts about 25 seconds into the track when Joao is singing...but if you're talking about a hi hat just left of Astrud on the right side of the soundstage, that one I'll have to listen for very carefully, because after thousands of listens, I've never heard it...!

John,

I have the SACD and I will listen for it.  Actually I wasn't paying that close attention, I was more listening to other virtues of the album in comparison to mcrespo's system.

In no particular order:

Ray Brown Trio - Summer Wind
Ellington / Armstrong - The Great Summit
Nora Jones - Come away with me
    Steely Dan - Aja
    Jesse Cook - Tempest
Ottmar Liebert - Santa Fe Sessions
    Paul Simon - Graceland
Dave Matthews Band - either Crash or Under the Table
    [/list:u]

the last two slots I'll leave for my listening test compilation discs I burned.  Various music of various genres created for listening tests and equipment comparison, however now it's turned into some of my favorite stuff and that's what in for the variety!

Cassandra Wilson- "belly of the sun" this  CD has crept up on me, just gets better each time I hear it.  Wichita Lineman for god sakes.

Charlie Hunter - "sonics from the analog playground" CD his first w/ singers, (Norah Jones, Kurt Elling and Theryl de Clouet,) kind of jammy sounding at times and uneven but good, young jazz players.

"Ella & Louis"      he invented it and she perfected it.  His horn can grate at times but this should be part of music 101.

Michel Camilo-"Triangulo" SACD   great , contemporary latin jazz.  Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez on drums is a treat.

Antonio Vivaldi-Le Quattro Stagioni(The Four Seasons)  Deutsche Grammophone CD of Israel Philharmonic Conducted by Mehta w/ Stern, Zukerman, Mintz & Perlman Damn fine fiddle playing.

Pancho Urbano

in no order...
