Here's my list of SL-1200 mods I'd like to try, taken from a post in another thread here a few weeks ago.

Anyway, I already have a list of upgrades to try on the new SL-1210 (sick since its only 3 weeks old).  I don't include the tonearm rewire since the SL-1210 M5G has upgraded wiring already and I don't think the outboard power supply and strobe disabler are on the list for now.

1. KAB tonearm fluid damper http://www.kabusa.com/frameset.htm?/m1200.htm;

2. Mapleshade 4" thick finished maple platform with Isoblocks http://www.mapleshaderecords.com/audioproducts/platforms.php, although maybe now I'll consider your Maple cutting board gal with some cut in half racquet balls underneath (the cutting board, not her) ;

3. Parts Express footer spikes http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=240-715;

4. KAB record clamp (the cheap rubber one with built in bubble level) http://www.kabusa.com/frameset.htm?/m1200.htm;

5. LP Gear Zupreme Headshell http://www.lpgear.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LG&Product_Code=LPGZHEAD&Category_Code=HEADSHELLS,
maybe with an AT-150 MLX attached to it  ;

6. Way down the line I may try the SDS Isoplatmat w/a Herbies on top, but I am still not sure those are worth it over the stock rubber mat flipped upside-down

I figure this wish list should satisfy the upgrade urge for at least 6 months, maybe longer

Hi guys, I have modded two of my Technics and they sound great. I actually am trying to trade one of my Rega arms for an SME 3009 or 3012 to see how that sounds. I would like to try some isolation feet next as well. I use a Michel record clamp too.

Hey, thanks. Yeah, both have the OL adapters. They do what they are supposed to. A guy on ebay sells some nicer ones for a bit cheaper. I would have gone with them if they were available at the time. He makes one for an SME arm aswell.

Hi rare_heat...welcome to AC  :D

I see one of your arms has the Michell counterweight, the other does not.  Did it benefit performance having it?

I, too, run a Technics Sl-1200 with the Origin Live adaptor....now shorn with an Origin Live Illustrious Mk. III tonearm.

Despite the $3000 arm and every upgrade from KAB (and replaced stock feet and platter mat) I can only get similar levels of performance from it versus my venerable JVC QL-F6.

British-based Sound HiFi (owner Dave Cawley) thinks it may be the stock Technics regulator...maybe he is on to something there  :scratch:

(btw, I have the Sound Supports armboard adaptor for Linn/JELCO arms, too, and they are very nice looking lightweight aluminum.  I've not used it as yet (need to get a JELCO arm nut not a size they have down at the hardware store), but it's quite handsome in a different way than Origin Live's.

Are you in the UK?

Wow, that is frustrating isn't it? My goal for these decks is to have good sounding mixes, and they do the job very well. I would like to get an SME arm so that I can switch between DJ and MC listening/ripping carts. I eventually would like to get a VPI scout for listening and ripping.

One arm is heavily modified by myself with a Technoweight, internal and external rewire, and Eichmann silver bullets. The other one was modified by OL and it has the structural upgrade and internal rewire with Eichmann copper plugs. I think I like the sound of the OL arm better (maybe because I spent more for it  :?) but there is very little difference.

I modified my stock regulator so that it no longer fights me when I am speeding up or slowing down the platter with my hand. I wonder if his mod has a similar effect.

I am in California

  I would think not. Mods to the PS and regulator are usually aimed at improving the sound through getting better speed stability and control.
