I am looking at getting a new home theater receiver.  I hope to buy a new HDTV LCD this fall and mate it with a home theater receiver/5.1.  I don't think I need the top of the line receiver with all the HD sounds being processed through the receiver....?

I am looking at clearing out some speakers I have and am not using and probably, to bad for me, will not use in the future.

A pair of Pioneer HPM-100's - Looking for $300 or so.  These I believe are the 200w models.  Now on Craigslist. These are now sold also.
A pair of Dynaco A35's - Looking for $100 or so.  These are the same as the A25's except they have an internal port and not the external one.  These are now gone, Bill pick them up from me.  Thanks Bill.
A pair of ADS L420's - Looking for $75 or so.  These are in great shape with only a little depression in one of the metal grills. These have been sold. :)

The prices are ballpark and only based on eBay and Craigslist ranges.  Let me know if these are ridiculous prices.

If anyone has some good suggestions for the home theater receiver in the $300 0 $400 ballpark let me know.

I may have some other gear to sell later to make up any last minute decision costs. :)

I can post some photos of these speakers soon....

Bo

See if any of your Circuit City or Best Buys have a last years model Onkyo TX-SR805 still on the shelves.  I got one a couple months ago for $439 new from Circuit City, it was about $1000 last year.  Tons of power, does all the new HDMI audio like TrueHD and Master Audio, has the Audussey XT ... and actually sounds pretty darn good with music.  The only thing I wish it has was 2 subwoofer outputs.

Thank you for the info.  I will look up that model and see what it has and then see if CC has it still.  I know American has open box gear all the time.  If you want to find open box/display gear and a good selection from Best Buy, try the new one in Edwardsville.

Hey Bo,

I'd like to get together with you about those Dynaco speakers.  If they are sounding decent, you gotta sale!
I'm gonna p/m you.

Hey guys, what's the model of that multichannel Panasonic receiver that's getting so much press?
The one that folks are modding?
If memory serves, it's in the $200-$300 range (used / un-modded).

I've got an extra 500 watt RCA (5.1 or 7.1) receiver. I got it used, not sure how old it is but it's modern enough to have Dolby Digital, DVD-A and SACD compatibility. I do not have a remote though. If you're interested, I'll dig it out of storage and get a model number.
Assuming you're coming today, if you let me know in time, I'll bring it. Maybe we can strike up a deal.

Bill - Ok....I can bring them by today at the knife shop to let you check them out and take them home to try if you want.

Bob - I was looking to go new, to get the remote, the warranty and some HDMI pass-thru/switching.  Some of the new receivers will process some of the HD sound but not the top end stuff and those looked within the range.  Had been looking at the HK mid level receiver.  Oh yeah and the other thing I was looking for was the built-in speaker balance.  I have read a few things about it.  It seemed to work to get the speakers near the point of preference and then you would have to do some tweaking to dial it in.  Thanks anyway.  I will look into the Onkyo you mentioned earlier.

I have a Sony 5.1 older receiver that the speakers started going out on.  I am not electrically gifted so I let a friend look at it and he said it would be more to fix it than its worth.  If anyone is interested in giving it a try, let me know and for the price of lunch you can have it.

No problem Bo, thought you might have wanted something "just for now" until you get the new one.

I'll second your idea of the HK. Big time!
I've got a AVR-645 that I think VERY highly of. A buddy has a AVR-545 (I think is the model number).
Both perform very well.

The unit I mentioned earlier is made by Panasonic. There's a few threads around here somewhere, but can't find them. I *think* it has HDMI in addition to all the bells and whistles you mentioned. The model number is "XR-___", or something like that.
It's "audiophile approved" as they say.
Oh, and I think I may have lied to you Bo, the price range I gave is for a new unit I believe.

Unfortunately I don't see any new models coming out.  Maybe someone else knows if Panasonic is discontinuing them.  That would be a illogical as digital should be the future of HT amps.

The Panasonic digital receivers are a great value.  They can sound amazing with music using the digital input.  They're also low profile and don't generate a ton of heat.

Hey Bob, I had one of those Panasonics that everybody talks about ... the XR57.  I hated it, sold it after about 3 months.  It had no balls at all, video section was horrible, speaker EQ section was horrible.  And I didn't even like how it sounded, very thin with no drive.  The only good thing about it was that it's small and light, which was why I got it in the first place.

Onkyo gained something like 27% market share last year because of the 805.  It had everything their flagship receiver did, and was the first true HDMI 1.3 receiver.  Checkout the discussions about it on avsforum, it was probably the most popular receiver of '07 and for good reason.  But how things work, stores don't want last years model anymore so you can get it cheap.  And it still has more features than most brands '08 models.  What surprised me most about it was the power - I honestly didn't miss the time that my 600wpc ICE amps were out of the rack for RMAF, the Onkyo does full 5 channel at THX reference levels as easily as the big amps.

Yea, the XR57. That's the one.
I've not seen, nor heard one yet but had planned on getting one for the wife's HT renovation (NOT my room).
Her system will be VERY minimal and I like the fact it has internal amping for the ".1" channel.

It must of been a speaker mis-match then.  I can sort of see the thinness which I would correlate to lack of coloration.  However in my system, through the digital input there was plenty of drive.  Music had a hyper real sound to it-- very fast and detailed with pin-point sound staging.

Here are the ADS L420 speakers.....
The light areas on the grills is the flash bouncing off the floor.

Bo

These have been sold.  Thank you for looking.

Hey, that LCD table is pretty sweet.  I might just want that, let me run it by the wife for a bedroom setup.

Hey Bo!

Those Dynaco's had a great little reunion with my ST-70 and we had a nice time listening sunday afternoon.  I'll have to harness them up to the SCA 35, as that sounds like a good match.
Thanks again for making them available;  hell, delivery is more than available!   One more question answered for how they sound and I can live with them around the house for a while.  :D

Best Regards,

Bill

I now am looking at parting with one (1) Mission M71 bookshelf loudspeaker and one (1) Mission M7C1 Centre Channel Loudspeaker.  I had picked both up awhile ago and thought of trying to piece together a set, but now just need the space and the cash for other ventures.  I have no clue as to how much these are worth.  Does anyone have an estimate?  Thanks.
