FS: Aleph J clone ***SOLD***
« on: 8 Nov 2008, 12:17 am »
Aleph J clone built by Tim Rawson.  25w of Class A goodness.  You'd be hard pressed to find anything that sounds remotely close for the price.

Runs very hot - save on heating costs for the winter :)  Weighs about 35lb, very solid build.

I've bee using these with my TSMs with great success (87db sensitivity).  Only reason for sale is because I bought another Rawson amp :)

$400 shipped in ConUS

Feedback on audiogon/headfi/ebay

I have a couple of Tim's Pass clone amps and while they look industrial, they sound outstanding!!

Excellent value and sonics.

Would you be interested in a trade for a Rawson F4? Cost me around $600 from an audiogoner several months ago. I have enjoyed it a lot but would like to try something with a little more oomph.Requires 20+ Db. from your preamp.New to audiocircle but have feedback on ebay and audiogon if interested.

OK guys, I ended up keeping this amp and selling the other amp (F5) instead as I preferred the sound of the AlephJ.  I'm a very practically minded audio guy and just didn't want to deal with the heat this thing puts out so I've been looking for a replacement and finally found one so this is up for sale again.

For those of you interested, I replaced it with a Belles 150A reference, and no, it's not THAT much better than this AlephJ.  The bass is more articulate and tighter, imaging is better, and the overall presentation is less 'lively', darker, but enjoyable.  It is slightly less detailed and doesn't quite have the body and sweetness of this amp.  These are the very same reasons I chose the AlephJ over the F5.

Comparing the two amps head to head really gave me a newfound appreciation of the value this thing provides, but as I said, it just runs too hot for my taste.  I run my stereo for 8 hours everyday and class-A is just not all that practical for me, let alone tubes :)

Man that's a killer amp at a give away price, but I just bought a used McIntosh 6100...  :duh: :bawl:
