Dedicated Room Not Gonna Happen...

...at least for now.  :duh:  :icon_twisted:     After getting approval from Maryland Heights zoning, and spending thousands on architectural drawings, the bids I got for the room addition were well in excess of what I paid for my house. Even if I had the cash, it is not feasible. I would be better off having a custom home built, designed around the studio.

After recovering from the trauma, I decided to move in a different direction. I have added some basses to my arsenal, including a beautiful hand made 5 string Upton double bass with a low B. I am slowly reclaiming my long forgotten bow chops. I also did a major upgrade to my portable recording system, with a MOTU 896mkIII firewire interface and Glyph RAID drives.

I have tons of production work right now, so not having a room isn't cramping my style, but I'm still weighing my options.

Here are some photos of two of my new basses (the finished four string is not mine, this is a photo from the builder's website. the others are of mine under construction)

Aww, that sucks Larry, sorry to hear that.  :(
There was an incredible amount of time, money and energy spent on that project I'm sure.

Dude Both the acoustic and the electric look absolutely fantasic!

The electric remiinds me of the "Alembic" (not sure of spelling) a friend of mine has, just a great sounding instrument.
Does your custom made have active pickups?
I love that look with Dark wood strips on the neck. Congratulations!

   Have fun

The electric is constructed similarly to the Alembic, which for over thirty years has set a standard. The "hippie sandwich" lamination approach has numerous structural and tonal benefits, not to mention visual beauty. The bass has a Duncan Basslines pickup and some very specialized active electronics. Notice the unusual bridge, which is patented. Here is their website:

The owners are both former engineers at St. Louis Music Electronics (Ampeg, Crate), so their combined electronic skills are equal to their luthiery skills.

I work in the construction industry. I you would like I could get some people to look at your plans that would do a qualtiy job for cheap on the down low, meaning cash, no overhead is a godsend. Work is tight I'm sure they would jump at it. Let me know, trust me doing a job on the side can save you substantially sometime near half.
