Will I get same high-end quality of sound no matter whether it's the cult Mac solution or another brand used together with Itunes?

If you are going to use any connection other than ethernet or wifi to your dac, I'd say no. iTunes does not support ASIO drivers with XP, or Direct Sound with Vista. Sound-wise, there are better applications to use with a PC.
