What was the last Gig you went to?
« on: 29 Oct 2008, 11:22 pm »

I went to see the ICE Cube concert this summer.

It was the Raw Footage concert at the Elecric Ballroom in Camden, the concert was amazing as Ice Cube has not played in the UK for about 13 years. The concert was a small affair so it was cool. 8)

McCoy Tyner Quartet at IMAC (small theater) in Huntingtown, NY, a week and a half ago. Great, of course.  8)

Too long - about a year ago (Marin Childrens Orchestra)

rpf - caught many a concert at that IMAC on Rt. 110 in Huntington when I lived there (Syosset and Oyster Bay).  It's a great small theatre for concerts and they get some really fine bookings :thumb:

Earlier this year Adrian Belew Power Trio at Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta. Freakin' awesome. Belew, the 'twang bar king', played like a man possessed. And the other two-thirds were top-notch as well. A religious experience, sort of. What a talent! What a night!  :thumb:

2 Weeks ago,  California Guitar Trio  in Charleston, WV at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, for an audience of maybe 70 people.   Couldn't believe so few people attended. :(

It was a fantastic show.

Neil Diamond
Our Symphony with Andre Watts
Sheryl Crow
Alanis Moresitte (sp?)

Jackson Browne tomorrow

many others....but that's off the top of my head
we must live in a very fortunate musical environment.
our local talent scene is pretty good as well...the Casinos
actually have a good cross section of entertainemnt.

Live VS canned...amazing the difference

It is an amazing place, with folk, jazz, blues, world, rock, cajun and all the permutations thereof.

A few years ago, a similar place, the Jeanne Rimsky Theatre, opened in Port Washington in a well renovated former middle school auditorium. It has fewer concerts and the acts, IMO, aren't quite as good - more MOTR - but I saw Greg Brown there earlier this year and it was wonderful.

The Starline Rhythm Boys in Barre VT . They were supposed to play in the village park but it started raining so they moved the concert into a church across the street . They tore up the place .

Mesa State College Faculty Jazz Band at 7:30 tonight.

As a side note:  If it is amplified it isn't live. Through speakers is through speakers whether you are looking at the musicians or sitting in your listening room. Only unamplified acoustic music can be truly regarded as "LIVE"!!

Ween - Nov '07 - Calgary

Epic 3.5hr concert with a 30min LMLYP (2nd encore)

If it was 4 days from now I would write
Eagles of Death Metal - Nov '08 - Vancouver

Playing at the Vancouver Commodore which happens to be my personal favorite location for a concert.
Small venue, great acoustics, no lineups at the bar, waitresses - and no line ups in the ladies washroom (keeps the wife happy).

We've hit a few local "music in the park" things, but the last full blown concert we saw was Eric Clapton a few years ago in San Jose.

This is the biggest load of bullshit I have heard in awhile.  So you are saying an electric guitar or a turntable can never be played "live"?  The fact is some music is live through speakers and does not exist any other way.  I think you need to get a dictionary and look up live.  If the musician is creating the music in front of you it is live.

Fiddlers Green and Red Rocks are great places to see a concert, I went to a number of shows at both when I was still living in Ft. Collins.
