My Candela seems to have a low growl which cannot be heard over the music but when nothing is being played it can be heard I leave my amps and pre on all the time and it's a bit annoying....are my tubes on the way out?  I should add that I really dig this preamp, nice work Klaus & Alex

Possibly tubes, but at the very least take them out and clean the pins with something like isopropyl alcohol or whatever the experts here recommend.  I've used Caig Labs DeOxit, among other tonics.

Hi Christof:

I had some issues with tube pins sometime back and AlexG recommended I use the Deoxit and ProGold Enhancer kit from Radio Shack.  He recommended I clean the pins with the DeOxit and then apply the ProGold Enhancer to a soft cloth for polishing it onto the tube pins.  Alex did not recommend a cleaning frequency but I have rolled so many tubes through the Candela I don't they have been installed long enough for pin cleaniness to be an issue.

Oh, my favorite NOS Tubes are Amperex Bugle Boys and RCA Clear Tops!

My system has a "growl" - but only in the winter...

As soon the heat kicks in, so does the growl - and the Candela 100% is the culprit...

I would send it in to get looked at --

But man it sounds way to amazing to be with out for any extended periods of time...
