Martin Logan+Bryston Compatibility
« on: 28 Oct 2008, 07:05 am »
Hi James,

I have never owned ESL speakers but was quite flowed by what I heard at a friends with Mark Levinson gear. I'm also rather curious about Martin Logans 'CLX'. Have you heard these? Any idea how ML will intigrate with my 28B's?

Would appreciate any comments.

Best,

DF

Hi DF,

No I am sorry I have not heard the ML CLX's yet.  They are going to be on display at the upcoming CES show in Vegas in January so I will get a chance to hear them there. As you know they are an Electrostatic so they need a good quality amplifier to sound their best.

I have heard the 28B's on the new JansZen Model Ones and the Quads (which are both Electrostatic speakers) and they sound excellent.  In fact my spies tell me you will see a review on the JansZen Model Ones and the 28B's in a major Hi-End audio magazine calling the combination the most transparent audio system available.

I thought the Janzens were self powerered, or has he changed the design?
We had them in for review about 18 months ago and I was less than
impressed with the quality inside,
we chose not to even proceed with the review...

It was a good concept, though and his father was an amazing designer
in the electrostatic world.

My CLX's arrive tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Hi,

Yes the Model One has changed recently and I believe the woofer amp is an option now as well as a fully powered version- http://www.janszenloudspeaker.com/index.htm

james

PS - I have heard some great things about the new CLX's!

I own the Martin Logan Quests and love them royally! I recently purchased a 4B-ST to drive them and noticed a huge difference. The amp has NO problem and they sound great. I did rebuild them with new panels, woofers and modified cross overs but I got them for almost nothing. I even re-varnished the wood trims. They look brand new! I have never heard mid-range like this before!

Not sure if my input will count here considering I have a lesser model than the CLX however, with your power, they (ML's) should be a walk in the park! From what I have heard, the CLX is nothing short of fantastic even though it is quite ugly! But beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

I've used other Bryston amplifiers with ML in the past, CLS, Aerius and Vantage
with no problem, so I have no reason to believe there would be any issues
with Bryston and ML.

Bryston has always made a high current, wide bandwidth amplifier, and that's
the key with ML....

Interesting...very interesting.

Well, he succeeded in one thing....he made a fool out of himself. And upset the owners of one of high end audio's biggest and most prestigious brands.

Nice goin' there Jeff!  8)

Now on the ML site under "What's this"

I hope they don't delete it because of the fallout but we will have to wait and see! If they do, it just shows that they are defending him.

Since these were open posts, I feel that I am not harming anybody but him since they are his words!

Thanks all! I feel better now. I knew there was something fishy about this guy all along. I thought I was losing my ability to judge character.

This is really funny!

Now he's trying to cover up what was said in those posts here. He's putting up smoke screens.

If I were you, I would not engage him any further. Unless you like playing "tardball."*

*No offense to retarded people. It's a slang term.

I have no intention on bringing this farther. I think it says it all by itself and I will be very careful not to ruin this lovely moment!

If there is one thing in life I hate it's hypocracy! There is way to much of it as it is!

My only point that I wish he would open his pee brain to is that my intention was to post a CLX experience to others on the site. Each time somebody expresses their experience it is ALWAYS with the equipment they have so why is it so important coming from James? Each experience is relevent and maybe there were some people wanting to buy these speakers with Bryston that could benefit from that type of review.

I also just realised that on the ML site under his name "Tonepub" it is marked "official sponsor"!!!!!!!!!

Now I get it! That is why he has a little army to back up his hypocracy! Interesting.

Yeah, there you go. What you displayed is loyalty to Bryston, you went out of your way to defend the company, and I commend you for that.
