TONE issue 18 ready for download...
« on: 26 Oct 2008, 08:31 pm »
Hey all:

It's finally done!

You can download the new issue here:

http://tonepublications.com/MAGPDF/TA_018.pdf

It's a big one (55mb), we have more music this issue than ever
before. 10 live shows and 35 new albums/CD's, plus an interview
with Shawn Britton from Mobile Fidelity.

We also have interviews with Curtis Peoples, Todd Rundgren and
Chuck D of Public Enemy.

More fun style stuff and of course a lot of gear reviews too...

Enjoy, I'm going out for a few drinks!

PS:  Should you want to see the concert stuff in higher res,
you can download this file:

http://tonepublications.com/MAGPDF/TA_018_2.pdf

Its 80MB, but the pics are great!

Thanks Jeff downloading now. 8)

Love the picture of Chuck D on the front cover.

I saw Public Enemy this summer in London at the Brixton Academy, they played the album “It takes a nation of millions to hold us back”.
Can you believe this album has been around for 20 years now.

Jeff - very nice issue lots of good reading.  Man wish I had caught Alejandro and Carrie Rodriguez together, one can only hope they do a record together, and thanks for introducing me to Jonatha Brooke, and finally as a northwester cool to read about the Eficion speakers (new to me).  So much we miss and nothing like having an in the loop friend point me in some new directions.

Thanks!

Well, the credit goes to my staff.  We've really added some great people in the last year
to extend our reach in the music world.  We are getting in touch with more artists all
the time...

Big fun for next issue, Todd Rundgren's wife Michele is joining the staff!

She's worked for VH-1, MTV, was a backup singer in a few bands before she
met TR and has a ton of connections, so watch for more in the music area.

Glad you guys are enjoying it...

Jeff,
My first time paging through your efforts and I enjoyed it very much.  Good balance.  I didn't get the feeling that it was published for billionaires.  I will be back.

Mike:

I don't play any games on my computer....  No time.
However this might change now that the new Grand
Theft Auto is coming out for PC!

But the XS does play quite loud without distortion, so I imagine,
quite well.  I did play a few movies there with excellent results.

Great little speakers!

Thank you for the compliments.  We try to cover things all over the spectrum.  We do not concentrate on budget gear, say like Affordable Audio, but we do always have a feature on vintage gear as well as entry level in each issue.  As we expand our website, there will also be a lot more gear in the 500-2000 dollar per box range as well.

But the Style section is going to be strictly for fun.  You will see more 5000 dollar pens and 20 dollar t-shirts and accessories there for sure!

thanks man....

My days at SH are over.  I got thrown to the dogs too many times by
Steve and the usual grumpy subjects over there, so I won't be back
ever.

If you want to tell them that the new issue is up that would be cool...

I will.  It's almost boring now.  But there will always be internet warriors/predators  who think they are gurus and wait for something to attack.  Too bad it seems to be you and vinyl anachronist most times.

Yeah, it's too bad.  We certainly met some very nice people over there.
But after a while, one just gets tired of being attacked from the same
six people..

Got too much work to do running the magazine!

You're always welcome here though...

Steve Hoffman forum.  I think he was wondering what SH meant.

Helluva nice issue, Jeff!   :thumb:

I cringed when I was reading Marc's Technics 1200 and saw he tested out the M97xE on it. I've been reading his columns for a long time and that cart is just not his thing. He should get a heavy 18g Audio Technica headshell, a great big couterweight and mount a Shure SC35C. It's a very musical cart and is a descendant of the Shure M3D and M7D carts which are like the Denon 103 and Ortofon SPU of the MM world.

He was easier on it than I would have been.  I've come around a lot on the 1200, but we chose the
M97, because a lot of people ask us about buying that cartridge. Sorry, but you can have it.  I'd much
rather listen to uncompressed music on an iPod than the 1200/M97 combination.  Both of us like the ZU/Denon
with the 1200 and I just ordered a Denon 160, which I've heard is a spectacular match.

Between the two of us, we've probably tried 20 cartridges on the 1200, all the way up to some of the entry
level Koestu's and just for giggles, I even put my $5000 Dynavector XV-1s on the 1200.  It's just not a terribly
resolving machine.  Great entry level table, but not much more. Sorry.

We are still going to fool around with some KAB mods and I am trying a Rega arm too.  We even got some
old vintage carts (the ones from the Slummin column and a couple more) that we are going to investigate.
