Really stupid question here:  Are CV2492 & 12AU7 tubes interchangable?

No, the CV2492 is a substitute for the 6DJ8.  The CV4003 is one substitute for a 12AU7, as well as 5963 (industrial spec) and 5814 (military spec).

Are these two pin-compatible?

Thanks for the help.   :thumb:

I ask because I purchased some NOS Mullard CV2492 tubes a while back, but never used them.  It has been so long, that I was not sure of what piece of equipment I got them for (I am new to tube rolling).    Anway, I just wanted to make sure that I did not put them in the wrong unit.

You're welcome.  It's important you don't put in the wrong tube type into a circuit.  In the future if you're not sure, there's plenty of info on the internet.  Some of the tube vendors will list the correct substitutes for a specific type.  The CV2492 is a european military version of the 6DJ8 tube.  If what you have are Mullard or Amperex made, they are worth more than the later Yugoslavian or Russian ones. Hope this helps.

Well, after several hours of listening, and a few glasses of a very nice Argentinian Cabernet, I came to the conclusion that the Mullards, when compared to the Teslas, are silky smooth.  Steven Tyrell sounded fantastic, as did Vivaldi (especially the violins).  Very pleased with the sound, and still amazed by the difference between tubes.  The down side is that the Teslas do better with raspy vocals - they seem to pronounce the rasp, where the Mullards smooth them a bit.

Overall, the Mullards are more enjoyable, and have the sound that I have trying to perfect.  They also  go great with a fine red wine.

Yes, the Mullards are certainly that, what I call liquid or organic.  You just sit back and enjoy the music.  Of course, some nice wine doesn't hurt the mood.  You can get some nice money for them if you decide to sell.

Hmm, I'll have to keep this in mind, my preamp takes 6DJ8's, and it's almost time for a retube :)

BTW - The Mullards were installed in a Lite DAC-62.
