Sharp SD-SG11.

The original post on the Sharp SD-SG11 now runs a million pages so I thought I would start a new one. I just ordered one from Minidisco with the hope that it might be the answer to my bedroom stereo search. I figure people who have bought one have now had them for serveral weeks and wanted to find out what people think of them now that they have had them  for awhile? Also, I'm thinking of running mine with either Paradigm Atoms or small floorstanding Klipsch speakers [sf-1's?]. Any inexpensive speaker recommendations for the Sharp? Last but not least, in my bedroom system, the tuner is the most used source. Please tell me the Sharp has a decent tuner that can hold a station.

I'm using my SD-SG11 with 8 ohm speakers that are 89db, and I am finding some limitations on how loud I can play it before it starts distorting.  On a volume scale of 0 to 40, I start noticing some clipping at around 25.  Of course, for my use in a relatively small room (11'x11') belonging to my toddler, I don't really need to go any more than 22-23 on the volume setting.  But if your room is bigger or you expect to play louder than slightly-more-than-background-music, you might want to find speakers that have higher sensitivity.  Also, keep in mind that the 25wpc rating listed by Sharp is into 4ohms, not 8ohms...

Otherwise, it sounds great!  And yes, the tuner isn't bad...

I'm using mine on a pair of 6 ohm 87db speakers (Ascend Acoustics HTM-200), but they are at the office, so I haven't tried cranking them (they are typically playing at the 10-12 level).  I just connected the FM antenna and the reception seems pretty good.  It's a little odd moving from the all analog Marantz 1520 to this for tuning, so it's hard for me to say how good it is relatively speaking.  Not to mention the different antenna - I'm not used to this type of antenna input as my other devices either have screw terminals or an f-type coax connector.

So far I don't have any complaints and it sounds quite good for my needs.  And the multiple colors are cool.

At the risk of repeating myself, my son is using some Klpisch RB-3s.  At 8 ohms and 94db these things rock.  They get loud easy and generally must be turned down because klpisch tips up their HFs.  But it is also crystal clear, almost etched (which would be bad).  I'd really recommend these.  He started with the RB-5, but we took them back.  The RB-5 turned out to be too much of a good thing.  The Rb-3s are darker, but with better tonal balance, and are therefore more musical.  I'm still looking for speakers for my unitl, but have narrowed my choices to the Moth Cicadas (12ohm, 94db) or Tannoy System 800 (8ohm, 93db in a half room).  I'm guessing the Moths will work better--now all I need is the scratch.
