Sorry man.  I've just been absolutely buried and the free time I do have I've been playing with new speakers/amps and some of Occam's power cords.

I guess I'll have to pass for now.

I would be very interested in trying the pre-amp, but only after I mount my crossover outboard and finish experimenting with the crossover, in terms of different capacitors.

Does this pre-amp have a phono section?

That is the main draw back to this unit, no phono section

Hey Paul, maybe we can get together so I can pick up the preamp. I have been out of the loop for a minute, I had neck surgery. This is the first week I have been able to drive. Where do you live? This Sat. morning might work maybe you could drop by and listen for a bit. What did you think of the unit? How did it it sound to you? There is a phono board for the unit that will just plug in. I have a stand alone unit that is the prototype for the phono board. It sounds very good in my system. Ken you are more than welcome to try it out when you are ready. You are also welcome to stop by Sat. for a listen. Brian whenever you want it just let me know.

I've been Beta-testing the Chameleon for some months up here in PA. I only have the 6H30pi daughter board but modded with Mills 4.7K plate resistors and Black Gate Red Cathode bypass caps instead of the standard 6.8k and Nichicons.

The sound is stunning.  Highly recommended.   I use a TKD Vol control. A phono stage is definitely in the works. Short review http://www.musicaldesign.com/customer_testimonials.htm

Sturgus!  Neck Surgery!!  :o
What the heck happened man?! :(
Hope you are doing better.
I'd like a listen down-the-road, but my mental calibrations have been such a major mess, and I've actually added a couple of pre amps in the last few months. (Thanks, Steve!)  Almost everything I'm listening to is 'new' (to me), so I wouldn't begin to know what sounds 'right'. :dunno:
Hope I can take you up on a listen, 'down the road'.
I truly hope your surgery 'takes', Sturgus.  As a fellow 'neck-hurter', I'm an awfully big pussy when it comes to surgery!  Be well!

Well, when the phono stage version comes out, then I'ld be interested in listening to it.
thanks,

Sturgis,
Neck surgery is a surprise. Hope it all went well for you.

If the preamp is still going around late spring / early summer I could be interested in trying it. Esp. with a phono stage. A lot of irons in the fire at the moment.
Out of curiosity which 6922 has been used in it? Current production? Old production? Somewhere in between? Has a 7308 been tried? Would different dj8 series tubes even make a difference?

Yeah Bill, I had a few bad disc in my neck and spine. So now I have a titanium brace and a few screws along with some cadaver bone in there now. Overall I feel better but still sore some days. Just now starting to drive a little. As far as the preamp goes just let me when you want to listen to it. Joe we have all kinds of Nos that we have tried. I think Mer Rev use the amprex 7308's. My fave is the 6h30 board. I have yet to try the 12a boards in my system. I think there will be a choice of 2 phono boards. One uses the 6922 and the other uses 12ax7 and 12at. I use the latter and really love the way it sounds. Maybe MER REV can chime in and tell a little more about the other boards for the linestage.  He is also planning on getting the 6922 phono board for his. I think for a kit price of around $500.00 it will be hard to beat. Dave, glad you are enjoying yours so much. John just has a way of making stuff sound good. Now if I could just afford a Platinum Ultra Dac.

Sturgus, sorry to hear about your neck, man. I have been hearing some good feedback about the 6H30 tube, and Paul has been complimenting your outfit. I hope yo aren't having much sympathetic nerve pain with all the plumbing that goes on with these rip an repair gigs!
