Cable Termination
« on: 17 Oct 2008, 02:45 pm »
I just picked up a ACI Force XL  sub. It sounds very nice, completly disappears
I am running it straight from my speaker terminals on my amp to the high level inputs. ACI includes speaker level converters which are bare wire to rca termination. So I am running White Lightning moonshine speaker cables  and pigtailing the bare wire to the bare wire of the speaker level convertors and then they plug RCA into the high level inputs.
So can I just buy a couple RCAs and solder the WLM cables to the rcas and take the speaker level convertors out of the mix?

I might be misunderstanding you, but if I read it right the ACI sub has a plate amp with high-level inputs on it? And those are RCA jacks?

"Speaker-level converters" make me think of a line output converter, which takes line-level audio and converts it to speaker-level...which I don't think is what you're describing here. I think ACI just included adapters so you could take bare speaker wire and plug it into an RCA jack, while still being a high-level signal. In that case, yes, using any kind of speaker wire you want with an RCA termination will do the trick.

Just doesn't make a ton of sense why they'd do that, most of the plate amps I've seen have 5-way binding posts for high-level inputs and RCA's for low level, makes things nice and simple :)

What you propose should work, provided the supplied "converters" are just a physical conversion. If it were me, I would contact ACI to verify, unless you can take the converters apart and see that they are simply some speaker wire terminated with rca's.
