Ceiling Reflection Points
« on: 13 Oct 2008, 05:01 pm »
I am trying to find my first and second ceiling reflection points.

My room has 10' tall ceilings and my speakers are 7' tall line sources.

What is the best way to go about this?

Mirror, mirror on the ceiling
What's the bounce point
From my tweeter? :thumb:

Roll a strip of duck tape on your wife's compact, stick it on the ceiling halfway between your driver and listing seat.  Either look from your ear's position at the listening position and see if see the driver or shine a laser off the mirror to the driver.  Move the mirror around until you do.  That's your reflection point.  Laser is easier.  I am not sure the second one off your floor and ceiling needs treatment.

Good luck.

There are nine tweeters.   :)  I think this complicates things.  In the past when I did this, I only had a single tweeter to deal with.  So what I am looking for is if the panel I construct needs to be long enough to account for the reflection of all the tweeters in the array?

do you have the first reflection points on the side walls treated yet?

Line sources should have negligible vertical dispersion beyond the length of the source.  It's one of the reasons you buy a line source.

Regardless of the other factors mentioned, ceiling first reflection points are always half-way between your ears and the front of the speaker. This assumes the tweeters are at ear height, which they should be.

With the line sources, it's not as much of an issue.

Yes my walls are fairly extensively treated.

I put up the ceiling panels as discussed and noticed a smaller improvement compared to the wall treatements which resulted in a significant change for the better.
